There's no way an album named Death Metal could go wrong, Drilling drums, incredible vocals (understandable, not the usual low Growl) a guitar that must be executed by one of the most technical players Metal has seen, and some incredible bass-lines, 40 minutes of accurate brutal intelligent and stunning music.
The album starts with "Of Fire" a fast song with some incredible solos and riffs, the drumming is also incredible, those beats are quite usual but Fred makes them sound great though, in the minute 1:51 a bridge comes, the catchiest one I've heard, and then that incredible lead that make demons weep, then "Trendkiller" appears punching you in the face, the cymbal intro is great (must be either a chyna or a crash) this song is amazing due to the drums (and of course again those incredible solos) this song is even faster than it's predecessor; better? I don't know, but faster yes.
This album is just amazing, it requires skills and a lot of experience to play as good as dismember does, specially those solos (I know Trey is better but still), the best songs in "Death Metal" are "Let The Napalm Rain" slow song but with good structure, 3:26 minutes of pure ecstasy, cool effects (in the intro) great cymbals at the beginning of the song and a great bridge in the middle of it (2:49), no good leads but still a great song. "Stillborn Ways" for all the bass fans, that intro is devastatingly played in an accurate and precise way, the song itself is not the best one in the album but that intro will make bass players go numb.
It's very difficult to highlight just one song, I'll just say this album has good songs for all the tastes.
So if you want?
Punch me in the face, I want Brutal, fast and rabid Songs: "Ceremonial Comedy", "Misanthropic", "Trendkiller", "Live for the Fear Of Pain", those tracks will make you feel angry and shit.
I am in my "I love complex music" state, I want good solos and equilibrated music: "Silent Are The Watchers, "Mistweaver"(for me this is the best song in this album, the end is just impressive, I love it), "Stillborn Ways", "Bred For War" (for those drums lovers), those songs will be your picks.
I want some catchy songs for headbanging, not very brutal but not mellow shit: "Of Fire", "Let The Napalm Rain", "Killing Compassion", those songs will blow your mind off.
I want something cool like ZAO or Poison The Well: ? What? Beat it dude, what the fuck are you doing here??this is serious metal not shitty music.
So anyway, this album is incredible, and deserves all the attention it can possibly get, so I highly recommend it, get it now if you call yourself a metal fan.
