This list needs some Blue Cheer, UFO, Iron Butterfly, Vanilla Fudge, Grand Funk Railroad, some early Jane (German band), maybe some Steppenwolf.

nice list anyway!

Cream, Rush, King Crimson and perhaps Jethro Tull?

Cream, Jethro Tull, King Crimson ... great bands, really But this isn't hard music.

Early Rush (1970 - 1975) openly copied the style of Led Zeppelin (mostly on vocal lines).

I would have them in such a list; Jethro Tull started in 1968 and that's pretty early, isn't it? King Crimson's first era sterted in 1969 and finished in 1974 and they not only shaped the progressive genre but also influenced many metal musicians as well. So did Rush.
As for Cream, I thought they were in the list already, but apparently I'm wrong.

Well ... no jazz fusion, no blues rock, no folk rock

Only hard psychedelic acid rock

Even people who don't care at all about that band (like me) know this though. I can't imagine anyone not knowing that to be honest.

Van Halen

Actually Van Halen is one of my favorite bands, but I think their music can't be called "early" (although debut in the 70s) - Eddie played too innovative.

Nazareth "Hair of the Dog" (1976)

Nazareth is a good band, but they are a bit pop and commercial, compared to the really hard albums of the mid-70s. That is why I have not included them in this list. But thanks for your suggestion

Oh, but not Hair of the Dog.
This is exactly the one album that I was missing, too, when I just scanned the list (nice one, by the way).
Hair of the Dog, man, is exactly that: "early hard music" imo.

Edit: It is precisely for this album that I dont understand why we do not feature Nazareth on MS.

They are not in MS because someone has blacklisted them as an inappropriate suggestion. And it's not me.

Yeah, I know.
I was probably wrong in saying that I dont understand why they are not here, it is rather that I want them to be here, because of Hair of the Dog -- though most of their other albums have clearly very little to do with metal.
Hair of the Dog is a hell of an album. It is full of excellent early hard metal-like music, there are also ballads there that certainly dont qualify as hard, but man, the title track, Miss Misery, Changin TImes, Beggars Day, Wiskey Drinkin Woman, and also the ingenious Please dont Judas Me.... that is so much early metal.

I respect your opinion. I also respect your desire to supplement my list with a really cool album. This album is superb rock, there are no flaws. But it's rock. It's perfect, but it's rock - there is not a single song with a really hard or metal riff. Thanks again for the suggestion
