I've played somewhere in the region of 1200 albums this year - there's been a lot of great stuff among them, so this will not be an easy list to narrow down - I'd like to say I can be stricter than the 25 I had in last year's list, but to be honest I feel like the competition for 25 spots is more intense this time around, so I'll stick to that (making this the top 2% of albums I heard this year) - shoutouts to Gloson, The Nest, Sum Of R, Process Of Guilt, Dysnostic and Aeviterne, who probably would have had good shots of making it onto this list if I'd made the time to revisit them more. Also shoutout to Laere and Euphrosyne, whose EPs in Clandestine Cuts indicate exceedingly promising futures

Shieeet, here we go again...
Best death metal AD 2022 according to myself, listed alphabetically by band name with subgenres. Some notable omissions include: Amon Amarth, Behemoth, Decapitated, Fallujah, Lorna Shore, Omophagia, Paganizer and Temple Of Void. These left me a bit disappointed so I chose not to include them on the list proper, even though I enjoyed all the bands' newest albums. I'm also still catching up on a lot of records so this list will be updated semi-regularly. Hopefully you will find something you haven't heard here. Feel free to recommend stuff in the comments. Enjoy!

Oh and as a side note, none of the genre descriptors are meant as derogative, I obviously enjoy all these bands and albums. Caverncore (or cavernous death) for example is meant as familiar in sound/style to a band like Cruciamentum or Chthe'ilist.

This is a list of all the death metal albums I have listened to that I thought were at all worth remembering. Like my other genre lists, this is just a record of my own listening experience that I use for personal organization, not a definitive account of the best or all of the death metal out there; there will probably be albums or bands that are not death metal in the strictest sense. You'll find some OSDM, melodeath, tech death, death-doom, maybe a bit of deathcore, I don't know. Maybe some non-death metal albums by death metal bands that I put in here just because.

I've decided to stop rating albums with a numerical value as I tend to feel uncomfortable with that. This list has a minimalistic, subjective and visceral approach, based purely on sensations and personal tastes. Mainly for personal use and doesn't pretend to be a serious ranking, but emerges from the need to remember which bands and albums I enjoyed and the ones I disliked. I constantly revisit new releases so first impressions may change over time. It usually takes 8-10 spins for me to get completely sure of a rating.
