On November 10th, Bethesda Softworks released their new game Fallout 4, the fourth major installment in the Fallout series, and the Swedish band Katatonia makes another Easter egg appearance in one of their games! Furthermore, Katatonia have recently confirmed that they finished the drum work for the new album which is expected in 2016. They are searching for a new guitar player as session live guitarist Tomas Åkvik will leave after the 70000 Tons of Metal cruise in January.
And the new Katatonia drummer is... Daniel "Mojjo" Moilanen! He will replace long-time drummer Daniel Liljekvist, who left the Swedes last year, as a new permanent drummer. You might know Daniel from several bands such as The Project Hate MCMXCIX, Runemagick, Lord Belial and Engel, among others. As you know, the band is releasing a new album next year, and today they also entered Studio Gröndahl with engineer Karl Daniel Lidén to commence the recording of their 10th album.
Guess who's ready to record some new music! Swedish gothic doom legends Katatonia just announced that the writing process of the new album is almost finished, demos have been recorded and they are ready to hit the studio in December. Sanctitude will be released on March 30th in the UK and the rest of the world, March 31st in the USA and Canada, and April 3rd in Germany. Until then, enjoy this version of the haunting "Day" song.

It has been some time coming but guitarist Per "Sodomizer" Eriksson and Katatonia have now mutually agreed to part ways. Per joined the band in 2010 as a live session player and after some substantial touring quickly became a steady fixture being heavily involved in the recording of Katatonia's 2012 studio album Dead End Kings. For the Swedes upcoming Unplugged & Reworked Tour, Bruce Soord (The Pineapple Thief, Wisdom Of Crowds) will perform with the band as a special guest.
While it will be hard to compete with Hellfest 2014's line-up, there are plenty more festivals happening next summer in Europe and Brutal Assault is one of them. Right before Christmas, the organizers of the Czech festival have announced six new bands that will perform in August in Jaroměř: UK legendary band Venom, German thrash metal veterans Sodom, Swedish group Katatonia, French black metallers Aosoth, Irish folk metallers Cruachan and funeral doom metal band Worship.

Katatonia loves touring in North America or so it seems because after recent tours with Opeth, they will team up for the co-headlining Uncrowned & Vertikal North American tour with Cult Of Luna plus special guests Intronaut and Tesseract. The two-week run will commence on September 23rd in Boston and end on October 7th in San Francisco. Cult Of Luna, Intronaut and Tesseract all released new albums this year.
Have you seen the line-up of Damnation Festival this year? The festival has just announced Swedish melodic quintet Katatonia and Norwegian black metal masters God Seed as the latest international acts to be added to fest. And Katatonia will play their 2003's classic Viva Emptiness in its entirety so that is a bonus.
Katatonia have been revealed as very special guests on Paradise Lost's Tragic Illusion 25th anniversary UK tour in October alongside Lacuna Coil. Since they are also celebrating their own 10th anniversary for their standout sixth album Viva Emptiness, the band will be performing the album in its entirety each night. To coincide with the shows and the album's 10-year anniversary, Viva Emptiness will be entirely re-mixed and re-mastered by David Castillo plus enhanced with new artwork courtesy of Travis Smith for a re-release on November 4th via Peaceville. The album will be available for pre-order from September 23rd.
