I gave it a couple of spins and I can't go above 6. Unless you're an absolute die-hard fanboy, I don't think you can rate this more than 7-8 at best. It's just unnecessary waaaaaaay too long songs filled with generic Maiden-riffs. Production is also kinda mediocre for a band so legendary as IM. Meh.

I love Iron Maiden, they're still an all-time favorite band but IMO songwriting-wise I think they are kinda spent. It's been a very long time since they created songs really memorable. Of course I'm not expecting from such a band to take a huge turn and produce something completely different, they are what they are and they have a certain identity but between Senjutsu or the last 2-3 albums I couldn't really tell the difference.

Waited to write something about this fine piece of work until I could give it a few good spins. Listened to it non stop since purchasing it in 24/96 hi resolution format. The album texture is really amazing in high res format with hi res audio equipment. What I find fascinating is that this album is rated equally on metal and prog sites. But I digress... I think this album is a fine addition to Iron Maiden's collection. They hit a home run with this one. I cannot say that I dislike any of the tracks. It should be obvious to anyone that a band that has members in their 60s is not going to produce the same music that they did when they were in their 20s, 30s, and 40s. If you are looking for some slower paced songs with fantastic musicianship - brilliant guitar work - you've come to the right album. I would call out my favorite tracks, but I really do like them all. This is better than the book of souls, which I also like quite a bit. BZ to the band.

I just got this on vinyl and I think it's another great release! Some of the highlights for me are The Writing on the Wall, Lost in a Lost World (especially that haunting passage at the end), The Time Machine, Death of the Celts and Hell on Earth. I thought Empire of the Clouds would have been a better closer if it proved to be their final song released, but I can't complain that there's more Iron Maiden music to listen to. I really enjoy how Hell on Earth seems to just fade into oblivion at the end, it's one of only five songs they've released with a fade-out so to use it here was quite effective. Great stuff all around.

And these "facts" are based on what research of yours exactly? Is it not "fair" to rate this album with 6 or less? By whose standards? And based on what arguments? You have given it a 10, which for me is as ridiculous as someone giving it a 4. But that's just my opinion according to my taste and this is how ratings work.

That score is based on 95 ratings, whereas the one on this website is based on 335 ratings, the one here is based on 1505 ratings (and much lower than on this website) and this one is based on 164 ratings (with about the same rating as here). Please explain how the one on metacritic is the "actual listener score" when it is based on the smallest sample size.

This album has got a ton of 9s and 10s which makes little sense to me, but as long as it's not rating abuse, i don't mind, everyone has got a right to an opinion.
