This is not a bad release by any means despite the fact I've heard better quality from this band. It has some really solid songs such as "Scandinavian Gods", but I'm really not digging the production, it sounds a wee bit flat imo, with the bass and the vocals dropped back significantly, whilst the guitars overpower everything.

For me it seems like they over emphasised on the riffs too much, the riffs of course are decent enough, but there's nothing surprising about them, just solid generic material really, and the vocals are ok but far from anything excellent.

It's incredible how these guys can keep up with the same level of quality in their music for almost four decades. It surprises me that the rating here doesn't seem to care for how long they've been on the road, being loyal to their essence, but also bringing excellent material to our ears!

Messiah is old and gone. It was a youth what created those epic good doom metal albums what never dies, but this is well I did like a lot The Door to Doom, but to me this is best album after Tales of Creation. Theyr eally did good job, good vocals, good riffs, good song writing, damn if I not knew they are around 60, I would not believe to that. Damn good impression.

Nik - thoughts?

Nik - thoughts?

I prefer it to The Door To Doom to start with. There are a few standout songs, with "Angel Battle" being superfantastic. I love Johan's voice, even now, the riffs are dirty and raw, just the way I like them, and the solos are tasty too. But I agree with Andy above; the production is pretty dry and flat. Nice offering, considering how old these guys are, but there have been better doom albums this year.

While I agree with many of the comments regarding the production - the bass is way too low in the mix, for a start - this is still a solid slab of doom. Johan Längqvist isn't as good as he used to be but still commands respect and is still decent. Some of the riffage here is redolent of 80's Candlemass - overall, it's a strong album - well worth a listen.

The riffs are tasty, the gloom is strong and the choruses are catchy. Overall a very very satisfying doom album.
