Such a disappointing follow up. They sound like second rate Obscura here.

Such a disappointing follow up. They sound like second rate Obscura here.

Except the very present bass, and the fact that they both play prog / tech death, I don't see many similiraties with Obscura myself. The symphonic layers and overall atmosphere is one big difference with Obscura. I mean, love Obscura, but one must admit that their music doesn't really have a soul, it doesn't take you on a journey. Indepth does. And secondly, I feel Indepth is more aggressive, mostly in the singing, but also in the overall sound texture.. it sounds less over-produced, with rougher guitar rones. Gives a more raw feeling.

This is not to say they are better than Obscura, but saying they are a second rate Obscura seems off to me. They are their own thing, and a cool thing at that. Reminds me more of Inanimate Existence if I had to name-drop.

Interesting take. I think they're closer to Obscura, especially with the phrasing (I'm no expert, but they use very much the same keys and scales) and the solo styles. This particularly resonates with old Obscura (whereas new Obscura is more varied).

I think Inanimate Existence is far more prog than both of these bands, especially in the way they shift between styles.
