Mark Jansen seemed keen to distance himself from his main band as much as possible with Antagonize. The symphonic arrangements in the new MaYaN effort are closely guarded and controlled, which distinguishes the band's sound from Epica further than ever before. While the debut album certainly found its similarities to the mother band, Antagonize is, in theme and sound, much more of a straightforward melodic death metal album.

Even with 7 members they couldn't come up with something good. Fuck me, that was pretty boring, apart the last track, the only track that is acceptable.

It was horrible compared to the debut I loved that album to bits...

Edit: The main issue I have is the lack of memorable melodies or grooves.

For me it was really similar to the debut in terms of quality, and I mean that in a good way of course They should include more interludes like Insano or Essenza Di Te next time, those songs really get me thinking how good would life be if Laura was the main singer of Epica.

DM bits are not bad. I like the guitar tone too.

Softer bits are generic as fuck but this is the disease plagueing modern metal.

Keyboards can fuck off (as always). Why the fuck do bands ruin their sound with shit, generic keyboards?

Not a bad album as a whole.

3 "fuck" and 1 "shit" = not a bad album

I like the way you review albums

Even worse than Lulu's lyrics? I doubt that's even possible.

Couldn't describe it better. I like the symphonic elements, but the overall feeling is "I've heard it before".

What's with all the hate? This album is really enjoyable with tonnes of great riffs and moments of brutality. I found it more varied and more consistent than Quarterpast.
