Gruesome is some sort of tribute band. They pay homage to the group that invented, shaped and perfected death metal. You guessed right, the band worshipped is Death.

This time it's tribute to Spiritual Healing. I think Twisted Prayers is rather enjoyable as well, but at times the riffs sound too much ripped off with slight changes to some individual notes, it's very distracting. Take the title song for example, it's a clear rip-off, I have listened to SH so many times I could immediately tell. This kind of "soft plagiarism" is utter bullshit. Paying tribute is cool, but at least respect the original artist by writing your own songs.

OMG yeah, these riffs are a bit too similar to Spiritual Healing, especially on "A Waste of Life" and the title track
Nice job recreating the sound, I guess. But, as Metal Diogenes said above, it would've been better if they tried to write some more new stuff, keeping that classic sound, but showing off new riffs.

oddly enough the soloing seems to be much more oldschool thrash metal infused than it was ever the case with Death. Many times during the songs I wait for Chuck... I mean, whoever the vocalist is, to shout "Some say she's naive, she's a stupid bitch"

Haha exactly this. I'm listening to it right now. Enjoying it just because I love Spiritual Healing so much, but, objectively seen, this band should've been more original.

Either way, thanks for sharing this in the Symbolic thread. Welcome to Metal Storm, by the way!

Thank you very much, although I must warn that I don't know any music theory, so my opinions won't be necessarily "correct" or detailed.

Don't worry, you don't need to know music theory to talk about (or even make) music

After Savage Land, I felt it was a band`s attempt at some original music but could not help themselves but mimic their influence. Now it feels more like plagiarism, if such an accusation can be made. The only benefit of this album in comparison to the obvious borrowing from Spiritual Healing is that, the production is better.
