Mick Thomson (born Mickael Gordon Thomson on November 3, 1973) is the lead guitarist for the nine-piece numetal band Slipknot, where he is also known as "#7". Before Slipknot, Thomson was in the band Bodypit with former Slipknot members Anders Colsefini, Donnie Steele and current bassist Paul Gray. He was the only guitarist for Slipknot until Jim Root entered as rhythm guitarist.
Mick is known for having the tattoo with the word 'seven' on his right arm. He even has the number '7' in the truss rod cover of his B.C. Rich Warlock guitar and the word "SEVEN" in the inlay of his Ibanez MTM-1 guitar. His B.C. Rich models are no longer played on stage due to contractual obligations with Ibanez, but are still possibly used in studio recordings.
He uses alternate picking and drop tuning as his own guitar technique. In the album Vol. 3: The Subliminal Verses Mick and Jim have finally added guitar solos, unlike the previous two albums, because Slipknot's producer Ross Robinson thought that adding solos was not suitable for their music.
