Biography
Cosmic Despair is an international Romantic Funeral Doom project consisting of: Azathoth (Gurthang, Nokturnal Forest) on guitars, Stormalv (Sectum, Mortiferia) on vocals and bass and Sam (Ecliptic Dawn) on keys.
The band was created in June 2010 by Azathoth and Stormalv as web-based band intending to play funeral doom metal heavily inspired by music of Thergothon or Colosseum. Just after forming a band, Azathoth recorded 3 demo songs, later released on split "Journey to the World of Nether" with his other band named Gurthang. This was the direction that Cosmic Despair wanted to follow.
Stormalv and Azathoth started writing material for their first album, at the same time they were looking for someone to handle keyboards. Before finding the one, they decided to start recording in the middle of July. In August Cosmic Despair finally found the keyboardist: Poet of Eclipse agreed to join the band. Azathoth is the prime songwriter in the band, while Stormalv and Sam write their own lines and arrangements. The recording of the debut album was finished during the autumn of 2010, and the final mixed and mastered version (thanks a lot to Niall Doran!) was completed in March 2011.
