Biography
AETERNITAS was founded in 1999 by Anja and Alexander Hunzinger and in August 2000 released their first and very well-received concept album "requiem", combining a variety of different stylistic devices (from classical to metal elements) and including Latin texts. The success of the album encouraged Anja and Alexander to build a live band, and during the following gigs AETERNITAS offered a very special show, bringing to life the contents of the songs on stage.
AETERNITAS 2004The second album "La Danse Macabre", released in 2004, joined contemporary Gothic Metal with classical, electronic and theatrical influences. The sound thereby evolved into an innovative symbiosis of dark melancholic Gothic Theatre Metal. The concept of stage realization was developed for spectators to enjoy a theatrical Gothic live show where the actors took the audience into the world of the Danse Macabre (among others at the Wave & Gotik Treffen (WGT), Leipzig 2005).
These two concept albums paved the way for the subsequent development of AETERNITAS and their next work, the Gothic Musical "Rappacinis Tochter" ("Rappaccini's Daughter").
AETERNITAS 2009The piece is based on the short story of American author Nathaniel Hawthorne, a contemporary and companion of Edgar Allan Poe. Painstaking work from 2005 saw music, texts and dialogues written under the auspices of director Sandra M. Heinzelmann and arranger Tillmann Kracke. By May 2007 the stage was coming together and in January 2008 the show opened with great success in Hamburg.
This was AETERNITAS' gift to the Gothic and Metal Scene, and to the musical-inclined public of Germany: its GOTHIC MUSICAL. "Rappacinis Tochter" has gone on to be performed live on stage more than 50 times between 2008 and 2011 (e.g. four times at the WGT 2009 ) and the album "Rappacinis Tochter - Highlights" received the Best Musical Album Award at the German Rock and Pop Prize 2008.
Since 2011 AETERNITAS have been working on their new concept album "House of Usher", based on the famous short story of Edgar Allan Poe, "The Fall of the House of Usher". For this new album AETERNITAS are developing a modern Symphonic Metal with complex orchestral arrangements, grooving rock parts and the strong and catchy voices of Alma Mathar and Oliver Bandmann.
From autumn 2013 onwards AETERNITAS will return to performing live on stage...
In 2012 AETERNITAS started working on their new concept album "House of Usher", based on the famous short story of Edgar Allan Poe, "The Fall of the House of Usher". For this new album AETERNITAS developed a modern Symphonic Metal with complex orchestral arrangements, grooving rock parts and the strong and catchy melodies of both singers.
In spring 2016 AETERNITAS signed a deal with the German metal label MASSACRE RECORDS, which released the fourth studio album on 21st October 2016.
Beginning of 2017 AETERNITAS announced the departure of longtime singer Alma due to personal reasons. AETERNITAS could persuade Julia Marou to join as successor who continues as the female front singer in the band.
The previous highlight of the symphonic metal formation was the support gig for the SCORPIONS in Rüsselsheim 2017 at the Hessentagsarena.
The fifth studio album "Tales Of The Grotesque" was released on 29th June 2018. The 12 songs of the album are all based on short stories and poems by Edgar Allan Poe.
