A Constant Storm - Biography

Biography

A Constant Storm is a musical and artistic project based in Porto, Portugal.
Formed in late 2013 by Daniel Laureano and under the mantra of "the wilder the better", the project's shapeshifting nature has been its main greeting card from the start - raw atmospheric black metal, abrasive blackened death metal and adventurous ethnically-fueled gothic metal are the realms that have been explored up until now, and the future remains just as unpredictable:

In early 2014, shortly after Daniel's 19th birthday, the "Storm Born" EP was released - a poetic representation of a storm, the style consisted in a mixture of raw atmospheric black metal and some tinges of darkwave atmosphere.
In 2015, Daniel joined Portuguese melodic metal outfit Moonshade, an event which meant the relegation of A Constant Storm to the backburner for the entirety of the aforementioned year. This new band's influence would, however, prove to become vital for the project's future.

Come 2016, Daniel teamed up with bandmates Ricardo Pereira and Afonso Aguiar, to produce ACS's first full length album, "Storm Alive". Exploring a noticeably more aggressive musical path, particularly directed towards blackened death metal, the record's 7 tracks contained philosophical reflections on existential crisis, and was released on that year's May 6th.

In support of the album, an acoustic session would be recorded and released in late 2017 - the "Live at Greenhouse" live EP, which contained 3 "Storm Alive" songs and two covers: a Dead Can Dance and Sopor Aeternus medley and a David Bowie song.

A Constant Storm once again hibernated during 2018 and 2019, due to the release and subsequent tours of Moonshade's "Sun Dethroned" record, but a new album was composed and recorded during that time.
"Lava Empire" was released in 2020, and featured guest contributions by Ricardo Pereira, Pedro Quelhas, and Inês Rento. Conceptually based around the themes of inner conflict and self-identity, the album's songs take the form of a guided journey through the surfaces and depths of different realms within an ancient and forgotten civilization, in a way that is reminiscent of Dante Alighieri's Divine Comedy. Elements of gothic metal, blackened death metal, ethnical world beat and jazz fusion converge to make "Lava Empire" an ambitious musical piece.

Through time and evolution, the only certainty about A Constant Storm is that it will never commit to only one genre or idea, and that aspect is set to remain the ever-present fuel that feeds its fire.
