CHAINSAW was set up in July, 1997 in Bydgoszcz. The first members of the band were : Maxx (vocals), Jaras (guitars), Siwy (drums), Ostry (bass) and Kuras (guitars). Still, in 1997 they recorded two tapes with covers and their early compositions: "First Steps" and "Second Steps".

In 1999 Kuras was replaced by Bigos. Chainsaw played more and more shows and also released the first demo called "Frogs". Another significiant moment in Chainsaw's history was when Demon (bass) and Rygiel (guitar) joined the band. In this line up the first professional album was recorded at Studio Q. It was called "Chainsaw". Unfortunately there was no record company which wanted to distribute the release in Poland as well as abroad. That's why the band was distributing it by themselves on CD-R. By now "Chainsaw" has been sold in over 1000 copies what made it become one of the most popular demos in Polish heavy metal underground.

From the year 2000 till 2002 Chainsaw played many shows with the best Polish bands such as: Turbo, Kat, Ceti, Acid Drinkers and Hunter. Many magazines (f.e.: Metal Hammer, Heavy Metal Pages) called the band as the high hope of Polish heavy metal. Next release of Chainsaw was 'Electric Wizards' recorded in the year 2002 (again at "Studio Q"). The first edition of the album was financed by the band.

In July of 2003 German company Shark Records took notice of Chainsaw and started to distribute the album in West Europe. On its license Metal Mind Productions was selling albums in Poland. Reedition of 'Electric Wizards' appeared under new name of the band: "The Chainsaw" instead of "Chainsaw". To promote 'Electric Wizards' the band played many shows including festivals such as Hell Fest (together with Ancient Rites), Rock Wgorzewo (with Hunter, Sweet Nosie, ...), Metalmania 2004 and Rock Against Terrorism (with Sylvan, Riverside, Corruption). Chainsaw also supported Classic Whitesnake. "The Journey Into The Heart Of Darkness" album was the subject of the deal signed with Empire Records in September 2004.

Consequently, the album was released on the 25th of February ,2006. The promoting tour consisted of over 50 gigs in Poland, The Czech Republic, Slovakia, and Germany , played both: at big fests((BasinFire Fest- The Czech Republic, More Than Fest-Slovakia ,Dratofest- The Czech Republic, Hunterfest-Poland) and club events ( 2 Polish tours). The band also took part in the tribute gig to commemorate the ex-Vader drummer- Doc in December 2005. Having completed the intensive touring season, Chainsaw have started the recording session of the third full-length album. The release of "A Sin Act" is planned for the 25th October , 2006 ( again under Empire Rec. flag).

April 2007 - Chainsaw is playing "Metal Marathon III" Tour along with Heavy Metal legend from Poland - TURBO. Summer and Fall we spent on composing brand new tracks for studio album and arranging.

June 2008 - "Acoustic Strings Quartet" is finally released. Album consist 10 tracks including 2 covers, summing 10 years of band..s activity. Meantime Chainsaw is recording brand new album titled "Evilution". Recording session is taking place at Studio X in Olsztyn, Poland with following guests: Tytus - voc (Acid Drinkers) and Mauser - guitar ( ex Vader, UnSun).

02.08.2008 - date that will be remembered till eternity. As the winner of Polish edition Wacken Metal Battle, Chainsaw is playing at the greatest European Metal Festival in German Wacken, being ranked at the second position, defeating 14 outstanding bands from entire world!

Autumn 2008 - several gigs all over Poland, band is staying in touch with few labels, trying to find the best publisher for the upcoming release: "Evilution".
