Viuda Negra
Viuda Negra is the most important rock group of the last period of Ecuadorian music. Their years of constant growing, a first professional discographic production and their latest work recorded in the prestigious Fusao V.M.T. Sudios in Sao Paulo - Brazil, have given them the chance to be nominated and awarded with the main prices of the genre in all the country. They have led the most important rock festivals and concerts, and they have been invited to play along the most important rock bands that have visited Ecuador. A successful Colombian tour and the distribution of their material in Spain, Argentina, Mexico, Chile and Venezuela, are only the first steps obtained for the definitive internationalization of their career.
Their music pretends to influence the lives and consciences of the ones who hear it, to motivate the search of new paradigms about our roll as humans, our models of social behavior and thinking, and the interrelation between the universe around us and ourselves.
History
Viuda Negra was born the night of Friday, February 2, 1996, in a small bar in the city of Quito called "La Nota" (The Note), place where they gave their first concert. With an important acceptance from the audience because of the excellent performance of "covers", after two years the first line-up of the "Viudas" (as their followers and friends have called them since the beginning) disappeared. Surviving to this first attempt of consolidating a band, Santiago Silva (vocals) and Johnny Gordon (drums) tried for several years with different line-ups, with whom they gave several concerts and recorded various promotional songs.
Between the years 2000 and 2002 they were finalists at the first two rock contests organized in Ecuador. That way "Rockazo" and "Fioramúsica" became an important showcase for the band. Taken from the second contest, 25,000 copies of a compilation of the songs of the finalists was published, including the song "Pretendo", which introduced them to a massive audience. In a short time they were invited to play in stages all over the country and they became the leaders of the main national rock festivals.
In November 2002 they were invited to be the opening act for the worldwide known "Angra" during their Rebirth Tour.
Beginning in 2003 they signed their first recording deal with Corporación Cultural Equador (CCEQ) and on October 31st of the same year, their first album "El Final del Silencio" (The End of Silence) was published. The first set of prints was sold out in less than three months, and the pressure of demand filled the market with illegal copies of the CD. Several printed and virtual media praised the first work of the Ecuadorians.
On December 10th, 2004, the "Viudas" confirmed their quality and professionalism in front of 10,000 people, sharing stage with the giant "Nightwish".
In 2005 they filmed their first video clip "Pretendo" which was greatly accepted by national and international media and fans.
During 2006 Viuda Negra focused in writing and producing material for their second album "La Voz de los Bosques" (The Voice of the Forests) for which they contacted producer Thiago Bianchi, who had previous experience working with bands such as Angra, Shaman and Karma. Between August and November 2006 they went to Sao Paulo - Brazil, for the production, recording and mastering of what is their new album, looking for a definitive internationalization of their music.
In January 2007 they were called by the producers of the "Tributo Internacional a Kraken" (Kraken International Tribute), Colombian band with over 20 years trajectory, in which they participated with 28 additional bands of 10 different countries from Latin America and Spain.
During the last few months of 2008 the band has recorded a second video clip, "Ausencia", and signed several production and distribution agreements for both of their albums around Latin America with several independent record companies, and presented a very successful national concert tour.
