Biography
San Francisco, progressive doom-rock, scientists, Giant Squid, have been wielding palatial vocals and enormous waves of cello, keys, and exotic sludge riffs for over ten years, garnering universal critical acclaim from all over the world. Marine biology and historic tragedy metaphorically collide into heartbreaking stories of human loss; producing unexpectedly emotional and sincere heavy music.
The band was initially known as Namor for about a year, following an earlier punk/reggae incarnation under the name Koi. They recorded Metridium Field (singular) while still known as Namor but changed the band name to Giant Squid at some point during the lengthy recording session. This was done to avoid any hassle concerning the fact that the name was taken from Namor the Sub-Mariner, a well-known Marvel Comics character.
Originally formed in Sacramento, California, but moved to Austin, Texas, for some time before relocating back to California (Sacramento / San Francisco).
The band have been on hiatus since 2015.
