Biography
From across the snowy wastelands and sunny plains of Canada comes the Adventure Metal of Dream Quest! Bursting with energy, and hard to erase from your mind (though, why would you want to?), this is music written to be the soundtrack to everyone's adventures!
Dream Quest is ecstatic to present Centralia, their second album, due to be released in spring/summer 2006! As their first release since 2004's The Release, Centralia will retain the trademark speed, excitement, catchiness, and creativity, but don't expect it to be simply more of the same. Centralia is bigger sounding and more dynamic, lead singer Phil Janzen has outdone himself by pushing his voice to glorious new heights, and there are 3000% more vocals than on The Release!
Centralia is also a one-of-a-kind concept album. The five tracks each tell one part of an overarching story, but the order in which the songs are played changes the plot! Putting the CD player on random/shuffle determines whether the main character is good or bad, killer or dreamer, hypocrite or saint, without missing a beat! Centralia is 120 different possible stories on one album, yet the music flows equally well from song to song in any order! Clocking in at 34 minutes long and featuring mind-bending artwork by Joel Braun, Centralia is not just an album, it is the total package, a Super-album!!
Founded in 2001 by Steve and Mick Doerksen and Phil Janzen, the trio originally performed and recorded some demos under several different names. Though show dates were few and far between in the early days, the response to the raw talent and creativity in the band was overwhelming. This encouragement prompted more writing, more shows, and, combined with the band's own insatiable love of music and metal, led to where they are now. Dream Quest has since toured to great receptions across four provinces and performed with the legendary Stratovarius and Anvil; the reigning kings of power metal Dragonforce and Sonata Arctica; and fellow Canadians, Into Eternity and Protest the Hero.
In January 2006 Dream Quest and Minneapolis-based Nightmare Records formed a partnership to distribute their debut album, The Release, around the world. Since its official release in late 2004, The Release has garnered dozens of great reviews from around the world and is about to go back for a second pressing. Together with Nightmare Records, Dream Quest has now set their sights on independant gold status for The Release!
To give people the best idea of what Dream Quest sounds like the band coined the term Adventure Metal. Combining blazing fast drums, mesmerising guitars, soaring melodies, and cascades of harmonies, it's catchier than speed metal, heavier than pop-punk, and more innovative than hard rock. Adventure Metal is also fun. Part of the reason Dream Quest exists is simply to make people happy, whether by their unique and totally engaging stage shows or just by the music itself. No matter what age or what musical preference, everyone is blown away by a Dream Quest show! Tim Roth of Into Eternity is glad that there is "finally some good Power Metal coming out of Canada. They have catchy songs and the right attitude to go far!"
Fast. Fun. Furious. If Indiana Jones, Conan the Barbarian, and a ninja wearing a jet pack joined forces, even they could not match the excitement that is Dream Quest!
