Biography
Dawn Of Winter were established in September 1990 by Gerrit Philipp Mutz (Git/Vox) and Oliver Christian Schramm (Dr) under the name Cemetery. The band's first aim was to worship their gods Saint Vitus, Candlemass and Doom Metal in general.
In January 1991 the first and quite simple 4-track demo Perfect solitude, was done, still under the name Cemetery.
As there were other bands with the same name around the guys decided to change their name to Dawn Of Winter. In september 1991 the first professional demo Path Of The Worm. Was recorded at mainstreet studio in Fautspach. Having no bass player Gerrit had to play the bass with Falk Gruber producing.
In 1992 finally Joachim "bolle" Schmalzried became permanent bass player. Soon after Jörg M. Knittel joined the band on guitars and gerrit could concentrate on vocals now. With this lineup the mcd Celebrate The Agony was recorded in mai 1993.
As o.c. Schramm guit the band end of 1993 he was quickly replaced by Dennis Cchediwy . This lineup lasts until today and recorded in december 1994 the first album Doomcult Performance which the band was not happy with the recordings. Just 5 songs were released as Black Revelations rehearsal-tape.
In 2003 the album was released in a remasterted version as vinyl-only-release via Iron Glory records . After many live shows in 1995 (a.o. Whit Psychotic Waltz, Solitude Aeturnus, Revelation and Mirror Of Deception) a new demo was done in 1996 called In Servitude To Destiny. This time Doc Wendler produced the band. The band loved the sound of the demo and recorded in may 1997 with the same producer the "real" debut album In The Valley Of Tears which was released on Jörg Knittels Iron Glory records label.
After being part of the demon tribute sampler (may 2000) Dawn Of Winter prepared for a new release to their 10th anniversary - the mlp "Slow Is The Suffering" was done in may 2001 with producer Achim Köhler in the house of music studio/winterbach.
In 2005 d.o.w. Released "Doomed Planet" on the cirith ungol tribute-sampler, named "One Foot In Hell". Soon after the songwriting for the 2nd full-length release started accompanied by a show on the legendary doom shall rise-festival in 2006 (the first show there was in 2003) and the band signed with massacre records. With "the peaceful dead" the magnum opus of this doom metal legends is being released! Take it slow!!!
