Biography
WISHDOOM is an Epic/Doom/Heavy metal band hailing from Thessaloniki (northern Greece). A primary form of the band was created in the beginning of 2007 by George Samarithan G. (guitars) and Christos Patses (bass guitar). A year after Panagiotis Botis (drums) entered the band to fill the starting line-up. Three months later, in June 2008 the band under the name WISHDOOM entered the studio to record their first demo called "Up The Hammers". During the recordings, several vocalists were tested until Chris A.D. Paschalidis (member of ANNO DOMINI ex-POISONED HENNA) was chosen to do the vocals as a guest musician. The outcome was a passionate epic/doom elegy, in the vein of early MANOWAR, WARLORD, MANILLA ROAD, DOOMSWORD, OMEN and other great '80s bands. With music and vocals matching perfectly, Chris fully entered the band. Fanzines and webzines gave "Up The Hammers" excellent reviews and the band made its great first steps. In February 2009 WISHDOOM performed live for the first time along with MARAUDER and STORRMBRINGER in Thessaloniki.
A year after the release of "Up The Hammers", WISHDOOM strike back with the new EP "Winds Of War", produced by Kyriakos Vasdokas (CROSSWIND) and generally adopting a more professional attitude. The self-financed EP, consisted of 5 true epic metal songs highlighting some of the masters of the genre, gained enthusiastic reviews in print and electronic music media and opened the road for the band's further recognition. At their second live performance in September 2009 in Thessaloniki, WISHDOOM left the best impressions supporting DOMINE.
In late 2009 WISHDOOM caught the attention of Metal On Metal Records who, impressed by the quality of their EP, offered them a record deal.
In February 2010 the band played 2 shows at a 2-days event "Warlords Of Steel II" (taking place in Thessaloniki and Athens), alongside with CRYSTAL VIPER, SORROWS PATH, MIND WIRE SOCIETY and BURDEN OF LEGACY. Just before those gigs Panagiotis Botis (drums) left the band due to personal reasons and was replaced by Dimitris Raptis with whom the band started working on new songs for their debut full-length album "Helepolis". However the obligatory military service of the band's guitarist delayed the recordings. Still WISHDOOM played 2 more shows at the following edition of "Warlords Of Steel" - this time supporting Italian epic masters WOTAN in Thessaloniki and Komotini in October.
"Helepolis" album was finalized and produced again by Kyriakos Vasdokas (CROSSWIND) in the autumn/winter of 2010. The band's debut full-length was unleashed on March 11th 2011, the date which also marked the band's live appearance at the Up The Hammers festival VI in Athens, together with acts such as WHILE HEAVEN WEPT, SORCERER, SACRED STEEL, OSTROGOTH, SOLSTICE, JAGUAR, EMERALD (CH) and others.
If you're into traditional epic heavy metal with some doom metal overtones, mature compositions played with conviction and passion and themes that evoke the glory of ancient battles, this will be right up your alley. Actually... really, do yourself a favor and grab this album - your collection won't be complete without this epic masterpiece!
