Biography
Two years after the independent release of the self titled promo that tested the waters, acquiring great reviews and a lot of interest in the process, Scar Of The Sun finally finished composing the material for its first full length album.
In October '07 the band entered the studio in order to record their debut album with engineers Stamos Koliousis along with the group's vocalist Terry Nikas. At the time the lineup was comprised by Terry Nikas (vocals, synths, samples and programming), Alexi Charalampous and Chris Veleris (guitars), Panagiotis Gatsopoulos (bass) and Achilleas Gatsopoulos (drums).
The band contacted and stirred the interest of high-profile producer Rhys Fulber who agreed to collaborate with the band in co-producing and mixing the album.
The album is titled A Series Of Unfortunate Concurrencies and contains 10 tracks, spanning approximately 56 minutes of music. The whole production process (recordings, mixing and mastering) took a total of 11 months in order to be completed and the album took its final form in the beginning of September '08. The album contains guest appearances by Mikael Stanne (Dark Tranquillity), Bob Katsionis (Firewind), Marios Iliopoulos (Nightrage), Chris Antoniou (Septicflesh) and Leah Randi (Paradise Lost).
Apart from Rhys Fulber, the band also had the honor of collaborating with Greg Reely, who took over the mastering process of the album, and along with Fulber created an outstanding result.
The sound of the album is multi-dimensional, blending many elements and influences; from gothic and doom atmospheres to modern electronic samples, from symphonic arrangements to the Swedish sound, with a touch of progressive structures and lots of heaviness and drama, all funneled through SOTS' musical concept.
Director/animator/designer Achilleas Gatsopoulos (recently replaced behind the drums by Thanos Pappas) who is still responsible for all of the band's artwork, along with Bob Katsionis directed the band's first video, for the song "Swansong Of Senses".
In August 2009, SOTS inked a deal with independent band manager and current host of MTV Greece's "Headbangers Ball", Orpheus Spiliotopoulos.
After a series of very successful live appearances in their hometown Athens, SOTS managed to headline Athens' legendary venue, Texas Necropolis. After those thriving appearances, the band was invited to play at Greece's Rock Hard magazine's festival in early June '09, and straight after that SOTS landed a spot on the billing of Greece's biggest and most prestigious summer festival, Rockwave Festival 2009, playing alongside Slipknot, Lita Ford, Saxon and many others.
In the summer of 2010, Scar Of The Sun participated in an online competition put together by Century Media Records for Dark Tranquillty's "Where Death Is Most Alive Tour 2010". With a total of 18,000 votes in favor and out of 158 bands that were competing in the final round, SOTS won the chance to support the legendary Swedish melodic death metal act on three dates of their European Tour in October.
2011 was even greater for Scar Of The Sun as the band was selected to be the very first to support British goth metal pioneers Paradise Lost on the first date of the latter's "Draconian Times Tour", on March 18th, at the Fuzz Club in Athens. A few days later, on March 20th, SOTS was part of Athens' 10th Rockfest N' Aid. In addition to that, Scar Of The Sun prove to be a solid choice, as the band was chosen to support yet another two Dark Tranquillty shows, only this time not abroad but in Thessaloniki and Athens, on May 21st and 22nd.
In the beginning of 2011 the band signed a deal with famous Italian record label Scarlet Records in order to release the debut album of the band. The release dates are set to be the 26th of May in Europe and the 14th of June in the US and at the same time is preparing it's first European tour in order to support their first release.
