Biography
Expressing Hate, Desire, Pain, Love, Desolation and Fear from Real Life in music and on stage. That is what The Wounded always was, is and will be about. Music from the deepest of the soul'
In 2000 The Wounded released their successful debut called 'The Art of Grief. In March 2002 they released their even more successful second album titled Monument. Shortly after the release of this album The Wounded changed their line-up. The only two original members bassplayer Andy Haandrikman and singer-guitarist Marco v.d. Velde searched for new musicians. This time they wanted musicians who fitted more in the concept and had a new and fresh approach to old, but specially the new The Wounded material. Which is even more grown-up and more comprehensive then the old, still very strong, material. After auditioning several musicians, they found in Alwin Schnoing their new drummer. Sander Wessels became their new lead-guitarplayer and later on Eduard Dresscher became the new man on synths and keys. To promote the Monument-album The Wounded started playing live as they gave concerts in almost every corner of The Netherlands. Also they did very successful gigs in other countries as Belgium and Germany. Marieke Schnoing-Gels stayed with the band for several years now as the female vocalist and becoming a very important individual behind the organization of the band. 'Experience The Wounded and they will steal your heart and soul'
On Atlantic the band sounds more mature then they ever did while the music on the album is more comprehensive. The experimental parts of old Pink Floyd mixed with the atmosphere of Anathema, Marillion, The Cure, Fields of the Nephilim and other influences like Sigur Ros and Placebo. The band succeeds in giving all these influences their own typical sound. And because of that Atlantic sounds modern and refreshing, but also very close and familiar. A lot of the lyrics by singer Marco are realistically written stories about deep human feelings when suffering from a trauma or the moment of dying. The thoughts and emotions that someone is experiencing at such a moment and the fragility of humanity and the planet they live on. Also lyrics about love and hate, flirting with the dark Some lyrics are biographical, others are even autobiographical. This is Gothic-Wave like it's supposed to be; Black
