Biography

The foundation idea of the Swiss Metalcore-Group Breakdown of Sanity was built in spring 2007, when guitarist and songwriter Oliver Stingel began to write new songs at home after the breakup of his former band Paranoia. Shouter Carlo Knöpfel, also known as the guitar player of a band called Nerph, has soon catched the potential in the way Breakdown sounded and quickly decided to be a part of it, with realising some of his ideas. With a programmed drumkit, the two metalcore-maniacs shortly got their own repertoire going, so the decision was clear... a new band has been formed.

Bass guitar player César Gonin was easy to wow for this new project, because he and Oliver played together with Paranoia before. Now only a drummer was missing, who could realise the concept of the programmed drums, and optimise it with his own ideas and influences. Over a year, they were looking for such a drummer - in vain. Until December 2007 Thomas Rindlisbacher became noticeable, at the time he was playing with the band Mortal Hatred.

So, Breakdown of Sanity was ready to hit the road, and in 2008 they began practicing. After a short period of time the band decided to look for a second guitarist, and shortly after Sandro Keusen was found. He is also active with the band Trinity and some other projects. Together they released and optimised Oliver's ideas, in which the band could avail of the experiences made by each band member.

At the request of Sandro, he was replaced in spring 2009 by another talented guitar player named Christoph Gygax. Christoph is taking an active part in different music-projects, and is also playing with the bands Close In Sight and Estate of Embers.

In this form Breakdown of Sanity express some music, that is clearly recognized as metalcore. Reams of influences are impressing the sound, in which a self-made, new character in the music simply can't be missed. Brute riffs and knockdown breakdowns are cleverly changing with melodic parts, what makes it possible for shouter Carlo to add some clean singing into the songs. So the music becomes once more eclectic and sets a lot more emotions free. The lyrics are including basically sociocritical and personal content. The name of the band Breakdown of Sanity reflects on the one hand the unbelievable aggression in the music, and on the other hand the dreary Zeitgeist in which we are living today. By the way, the concept "Breakdown" is a small advice to the content of their music, because breakdowns aren't really missing in the compositions of these Bernese guys...
