40 Below Summer played their first reunion show in 2010 at the Starland Ballroom in Sayreville, New Jersey - the same venue at which they had played their "last" show in 2005. The 2005 concert was recorded and included as a bonus DVD with the 2006 album The Last Dance.

Though 40 Below Summer broke up in September of 2005, their fourth album, The Last Dance, was not released until over a year later, on October 31, 2006. The Last Dance consists of demos of songs that did not make the final cut for The Mourning After, the band's third album. The band filmed a music video and played a select number of shows in 2006 to promote the album, but remained officially broken up until mid-2010.
