Epica - Reject Rumours About Vocalist Joining Nightwish

Online "news" sources have been spreading rumours that Epica vocalist Simone Simons has been in talks with Nightwish about joining the band. Epica has addressed the issue via their official website with the following statement:

"The last few months there have been a lot of rumours about Simone, implying she would leave Epica to join Nightwish as their new vocalist. With this rumour being published in a Finnish celebrity gossip magazine we are again getting a lot of questions whether or not this is true, so once again: Simone is not in contact with Nightwish nor their management and will not be leaving Epica. Don't believe everything you read, specially not in gossip magazines.

Oh and by the way, we are still looking for a new drummer. For more info contact info@epica.nl."

BW&BK can confirm that Epica's statement is not a whitewash, as they recently met up with backing vocalist Amanda Somerville, who began working on pre-production for the next Epica album at the beginning of the month at Gate Studios in Wolfsburg, Germany. According to Somerville work on the album is due to continue in January.

April - Songs From Upcoming Album Streaming Online

Upcoming Finnish metallers April have released some songs for preview from their upcoming album "Tidelines" to be released on the 7th of January, 2007. They can be heard at their Myspace page. April have played at major metal festivals and also supported Bullet for My Valentine on their recent tour.

A short biography:
Helsinki-based five-piece metal combo was founded in 2004. The band's trademark is relentless blend of soulful heavy metal with melodic and pop-esque twists - I guess you could say that April is the old dogs new bag of tricks - a modern metal gem in the global pile of faceless bands jumping the bandwagon.

After signing to Spinefarm Records in early 2006, the band immediately started the pre-production of their debut album - due out in February 2007 - with Tero Kinnunen, a Finnish producer whose work with million-selling Nightwish has won international recognition and acclaim.

The upcoming album "Tidelines" is filled with virtuoso vocals, gigantic and heavy riffs as well as beautiful and balanced songwriting. It's definitely heavy metal but with alternative rock and pop music flavours.

Between the recording sessions April has supported Welsh heroes Bullet For My Valentine, played two major open-air metal festivals and spent numerous hours rehearsing and sharpening their skills for future attacks!

Meshuggah - New Album On The Way

Meshuggah is currently writing a new album, which they hope to release in late-spring 2007. The group has issued the following update:

"Right now we are writing material for the new album. After the Nothing re-release, we more-or-less finished working on our studio, so know we're putting together a kind of demo to see where we are at material-wise and basically give the studio, the songs, and us a test-run, heh, heh. We are swimming in dark waters that constitute putting an album together and whatever we find beneath the surface is definitely gonna be... interesting. Suffice to say that we're in a weird but inspirational period right now. It's all gonna be about the writing during November. The demo recording is hopefully happening in December in-between the pinball tournaments here in the studio. Then we'll see where we're at, I guess. In hell, probably. We've got no working title or concrete cover ideas yet, but it's getting there. It's the slow process of coming to terms with the material we've got and hopefully understand what to make of it. The plan is to have the album out late Spring or - if things get fucked up - early Fall. Naturally, the touring will be planned around the album release, so we'll see when we get closer to completing the album."

God Forbid - Canadian Tour Cancelled

God Forbid has cancelled their weeklong Canadian trek as direct support to Protest The Hero. Their only remaining show for 2006 will be a headlining performance in Levittown, NY at Club Ritual on Dec. 8th. God Forbid will return to the road in 2007 for the "Chains of Humanity" tour with Goatwhore, Mnemic, Arsis, The Human Abstract and Byzantine in the support slots.

Doc Coyle (guitars, vocals) states: "Due to an inability to come to an agreement over a discrepancy between the booking and announcing of a Toronto show on our on headline tour, God Forbid and Protest The Hero mutually decided it would be best if we didn't take part in the upcoming Canadian run. We are very disappointed that this couldn't be worked out, but we are still friends and fans of PTH and consider this just a postponement of future touring that I'm sure will be bigger and better. Again, we apologize to any Canadian fans who already bought tickets. We will be playing Toronto and Montreal as part of our headline tour with Goatwhore, Mnemic, Arsis, The Human Abstract and Byzantine, so we hope to see you all then."

Leatherwolf - Part Ways With Vocalist

Orange County / Los Angeles based heavy metal band Leatherwolf are currently looking for a new vocalist following the departure Wade Black who fronted the band on their critically acclaimed comeback album, "World Asylum," released last June on N.I.L.8 Records.

"We would like to thank Wade for his contributions to Leatherwolf and wish him the best of luck in his future endeavors," commented the group on the split. "There are no hard feelings between both parties. Unfortunately, certain economic realities and the geographical distance between Wade and the rest of the band turned out to be an obstacle too hard to overcome and made working as a unit that much more difficult."

"We are now looking for someone closer to home, perferably based right here in Southern California. Potential candidates must be able to sing both the Michael Olivieri and Wade Black era songs (guitar abilities a huge plus!), have a valid passport, and be able to go on the road as we have a European tour in the works for spring 2007."

Interested parties get in touch with the band via dean.rob_at_cox.net
