Why the hell new cover art? The original was great and iconic as it was.

Pointless perhaps, but a far better artwork than the extremely bland original.

Account deleted Written by Marcel Hubregtse on 09.04.2012 at 17:37 Totally not the meaning of "iconic" - iconic is when something can be recognised on a bigger scale by a wider audience. Only people into stoner would recognise it. Something like Black Sabbath's s/t album is iconic because it's recognisable by virtually every metaller. It's like saying Sephiroth is iconic just because fans froth at the mouth when they see him and assume everyone knows him when in fact he isn't iconic. Mario would be an example of iconic in that sense.

Who gives a shit? It's their band, they can do whatever the fuck they want. I like the cover, personally, it's like a procession of nuclear prophets smoking hippie lettuce in the Sahara or something.

So, Dopesmoker can be considered iconic within the stoner and doom world. It seems like you are overvaluing the term But you still haven't answered my question. Who the hell is Mario? I don't know the guy. adnd I am sure my parents and my grandma and such aslo don't know him. I am not saying he is not iconic. Because he could well be.

09.04.2012 - 18:02 Written by Marcel Hubregtse on 09.04.2012 at 17:59 But anyway... Mario is an example "iconic" in the sense that you don't even need to write bros, you can just type Mario and that's all you get at least on the first page of links and images.

Even though video gaming is as mainstream as it gets nowadays still not everyone knows about stuff such as Mario Bros.

Account deleted Written by Marcel Hubregtse on 09.04.2012 at 18:05 Firstly: "overexaggeration" - stop making up words exaggeration is what you meant, Secondly, Mario is a universally recognised character. By universally I mean that it's recognisable enough to be considered an "icon" - I didn't say, at any point, that EVERYONE recognised him. Not EVERYONE will recognise Marilyn Monroe but she's still an icon.

09.04.2012 - 18:10 Written by Marcel Hubregtse on 09.04.2012 at 18:05 Ah c'mon Marcel that was clearly just a manner of speech. Icons are of course Icons in their own scene. Virtually every gamer knows who Mario is. It's the comparison of scene and the object that matters here. I won't question the "Iconic-ness" of Dopesmoker's artwork as I'm not THAT into stoner music. Joe: enough with the ninja'd ffs....

Account deleted Written by X-Ray Rod on 09.04.2012 at 18:10 I am heavily into stoner and it's not instantly recognisable to me, at all. The band name, the album name quite probably, but not the artwork. This is just an example of a fan of a genre confusing advanced knowledge of something as "iconic" - much like when people try to say Sephiroth is iconic

09.04.2012 - 18:18 Written by Troy Killjoy on 09.04.2012 at 18:17 Well, I meant the fact that this artwork is pointless because this reissue didn't need a new one........ Which is the main part of this discussion so that's why I said I agreed with you. Your description is kind of weird... because now it's just more awesome.
