Totally not the meaning of "iconic" - iconic is when something can be recognised on a bigger scale by a wider audience. Only people into stoner would recognise it. Something like Black Sabbath's s/t album is iconic because it's recognisable by virtually every metaller. It's like saying Sephiroth is iconic just because fans froth at the mouth when they see him and assume everyone knows him when in fact he isn't iconic. Mario would be an example of iconic in that sense.

On the whole, "Mario Bros." is less iconic than "Mario" - the early games were called Mario bros but the character, Mario, himself has become far larger than the games.

Firstly: "overexaggeration" - stop making up words exaggeration is what you meant, Secondly, Mario is a universally recognised character. By universally I mean that it's recognisable enough to be considered an "icon" - I didn't say, at any point, that EVERYONE recognised him. Not EVERYONE will recognise Marilyn Monroe but she's still an icon.

I am heavily into stoner and it's not instantly recognisable to me, at all. The band name, the album name quite probably, but not the artwork. This is just an example of a fan of a genre confusing advanced knowledge of something as "iconic" - much like when people try to say Sephiroth is iconic

I agree with Marcel and Troy though, as much as I like this artwork, I find it pointless and I really like the original as well.

They could have used this one for another release...

Well, I meant the fact that this artwork is pointless because this reissue didn't need a new one........ Which is the main part of this discussion so that's why I said I agreed with you.
