Markus Berger, the bassist, guitar player and co-founder of German progressive metallers Dante has passed away. He suffered from a severe disease.

Dante issued the following statement about it: "Last night Markus lost the battle against his severe disease, a disease that has kept him from being on stage with us for the last year. Brave, always hoping and with an admirable courage Markus kept fighting until the very end. Yesterday, the world has lost an incredibly talented musician - and we have lost a great friend. Our pain and our grief are incredibly deep and cannot be properly expressed with words. Our thoughts on this tough day are with his family, who has our deepest and deeply felt compassion."

Markus Berger also played guitars in Trance (1977-1998) and Trancemission (1989).
