Nice song, but sounds a lot like Sigur Ros. No metal in this at all.

Since when is that a bad thing?

Sigur Rós is way better than this though. I find this okayish. I'm still going to check out the whole thing though.

I'm not saying it's a bad thing, I just think Alcest is starting to lose some of its uniqueness. I like my Alcest to have a subtle metal influence at least.

I can't say I'm surprised with the single at all, really; enjoyable, although I think even some fans of Voyage might not enjoy it. If you don't like Alcest's most recent material, then I don't think you should really bother giving this one a go.

Well that was disappointing.
I preferred his music when it wasn't so... happy. Repeating the same thing over and over for the last minute and a half didn't help either.

I don't think it's bad but it doesn't have much of what made the earlier stuff great.

At the moment, "Opale" is completely not in my taste. I feel even a slight irritability. It's possible that this is my today's gloomy mood, or completely inadequate landscape behind the window - a cold, bleak, to the pouring rain. I will come back to this in a more sunny days..

Agreed, I like it more than songs on the last album. And the video is quite nice too.

that pot is clearly metallic/silvery
(you're right of course. I'd argue I meant pop as in mainstream/accessibility but I'd rather hang my shoulders in defeat)

Well you got me on the color of the pot, so technically we both lost at our own argument.

<ok>

I would kindly like to inform you this is not exactly an "irrelevant genre discussion" rather the fact that people are surprised about how this sounds even though Neige has been saying for ages that this will be a pure shoegaze album, and guess what, THIS is exactly how "pure shoegaze" sounds like.

And fyi, this isn't pop. Shoegaze is not exactly a genre with a large mainstream appeal, despite its accessiblity (though it was kinda mainstream-ish in the late 80s).

I simply think that, if I want to listen to Slowdive or Sigur, then I'll just listen to them. Not Alcest.
The song is barely okay but generic and trite, and honestly I'm getting tired of those "aaahh, eeehh, aaahh, overwhelming BEAUUUTYYY". The video is a big meh just like the previous ones.
So uhm, I don't expect anything good from Shelter.

Agreed. I'm not surprised by the move away from metal. I think Neige has taken the metal/shoegaze approach as far as he can. Any further will probably put Alcest at risk for self-parody, which is the last thing I want to happen to one of my favorite bands.

As for the song, I like it. It's not the best thing I've ever heard, but it's good. I will reserve final judgment when I have an entire album to digest.
