I wonder why these guys don't just increase the area so that they can put more tickets on sale. If 75k tickets were sold so fast, I doubt that 100k or more can't be sold quick.

How much is 'too much' anyway? In the past there were festivals with hundreds of thousands of people and nobody complained there were too many. If there is demand, why not come up with the offer too? If you are able to sell 75k tickets in such a short amount of time, I'm sure you can aim higher. These are just my 2 cents, but I do not see why nobody ever thought about this. I am not saying that they should raise the bar immediately at 100k+ tickets, but maybe with 5k more each year and see how things develop? It is kinda sad that for 10 years in a row of being sold-out, not much has changed regarding ticket selling. And now that tickets are being bouth so frigging fast, I would imagine that they there are many who would wish to go to Wacken and couldn't get to buy one.

I know it's apples to oranges, but Pink Floyd alone performed in front of almost 100,000 people.

Festivals take place on both privately and publicly-owned fields and land. This is the reason why it is extremely hard to expand festival grounds. You have to convince different land owners and officials to lend you/rent you their property. If Wacken doesn't expand it might be simply because there is no more ground to expand on. And seriously, 75 000 is already A LOT.

Yeah, nothing ruins a festival like too many people. The more people the harder it is to manage and getting people into smaller stages (and many mains ones) becomes a problem.

I think Germany needs another big name festival to compete. The market is surely there!

While I totally see your point, I felt that Hellfest, with 50k persons a day, was too much, and I certainly wasn't the only one in the HF crowd. The sheer size of the stuff is actually one good reason for me NOT TO even consider going at the WOA.
But to each his own - and Ilham indeed raise a good point about land owning and stuff

Maybe that would change your view of metallers. But then again maybe Wacken isn't the best place for that.

Dude, you just have to experience it by yourself, it's the atmosphere, the people, it's just something really nice! I was actually disappointed with the lineup this year but still I had a great experience at Wacken when not seeing bands, we were hanging with our fun friends at the camp, and just having a blast. If you got the chance someday, try it out

The lineup this year was actually really good. Thing is that Wacken was never about billboard headliners. They have gone that way in recent years but it wasn't really appreciated by the festival's fans. On both their last anniversaries (20 and 25), they went their own way and created a lineup that didn't require a single stage to be blocked for a whole day just for one band. And while the Wacken lineup will never be as good as say Hellfests, simply for the fact that the organizers of Wacken don't actually know their music, it certainly was one of the best in the last 15 years. Extremely varied and lots of special shows. Hammerfall performing Glory To The Brave in its entirety, Vreid playing songs from Windir, Emperor with their anniversary show, ChthoniC with an orchestra show, Apocalyptica with an orchestra show, all insane acts on their own. Not to mention Devin Townsend, Decapitated, Skid Row, Megadeth and King Diamond.

But I have to say too, they're getting their grip back on things. This year has seen the first improvement on what has become worse and worse over the last ten years, both organizationally and in terms of treating attendees. Hopefully they stick to that way. Because otherwise, the people who made the festival big and loved will all be gone before long. Most of them already have.

I live in Germany for almost two years now, and I still don't have someone to go to Wacken with. Now I've to wait till 2016 ... great

Every festival I go to has gotten more and more people every year and it's annoying as fuck. I don't think they have to increase the amount of tickets.
