Hexis - Members Part Ways, Not Disbanding
UPDATE: Despite the big line-up changes, Hexis is not over as was just confirmed by vocalist Filip Andersen, who will remain the only original member in the band. The old Hexis lineup will play their last show together at Underwerket in Copenhagen, on August 12th. Meanwhile, Filip Andersen is looking for new members to tour in 2016 and write new material.
Original news, published on 09.04.2015: Aficionados of blackened dissonant hardcore are grieving. Yesterday, in a long message addressed to the fans via their Facebook page, the frontman Filip expressed his concern about the future of the band as drummer Simon and himself had decided to leave. It was unclear whether the name "Hexis" would survive their departure, and their dedicated fans still had hope it wouldn't come to a complete disbandment, until Tobias Munk Tønder announced the final decision - the splitting of the group - two hours later via the same platform. The formation has made clear that none of their confirmed live shows are cancelled, if it is any consolation.
Here are the two complete statements issued explaining their decisions.
Vocalist Filip Andersen: "I'm looking for people to start a new band with. Today we had a band meeting in Hexis and our drummer and me doesn't work together in the same band anymore, the rest of the guys don't want to be a part of the band if either me or our drummer leaves. We WILL however perform our planned shows. I don't know if that means that 'Hexis' is done. I'm very split between if I think the label 'Hexis' should be used with new members, or not, because it does seem a bit strange to keep that name if I'm the only one left who has been a part of the band since the beginning - but as many know its a big expense and a lot of work to build up a new name, when you want to tour the world. 5 years of hard work and dedication has luckily opened a lot of doors for us when it comes to concerts, releasing records, economy and everything that follows. Besides that we have had a lot of band member changes over the years. So it may not be as different, as I'm thinking it will, even tho it sounds a bit extreme.
"Hexis of course wouldn't be the first band with only one original member in it. I have always been a big part of the songwriting and been the one who had put the most of my time in this band. If I start a new band with another name, who also plays 'blackened' music and performs with stroboscopic light and smoke, people will probably just call it 'Hexis 2'. I'm not yet tired of playing all our songs, so a couple of the songs I would still love to play around the world. The past couple of years my thoughts have been almost 100% Hexis related, AND I think I will go crazy if I don't have a band like that anymore. To be in a band is something that makes me happy and the reason I'm getting through hard and boring times, I even think I'll go as far as saying that being a part of a band, is the meaning with my life. So if you have any interest in writing and playing a lot of music + touring as a maniac, give me a heads up: bloatedveins@gmail.com then we'll figure something out!
"I am not interested in a 'Jam Band', who's only gonna play a couple of shows here and there, but I am very interested in getting in touch with someone just as engaged as me, and doesn't have a lot of other things to do! I am also open to be playing with someone outside Denmark, because I know it's easier to find members who has interest in this kind of music, out there. - Filip (the singer)"
Guitarist Tobias Munk Tønder: "The members of Hexis have parted ways - there are no hard feelings involved in this decision - we have simply grown apart. I want to use this opportunity to thank all the fans, promoters, labels and people who've helped out along the way. A special thank-you to all my fellow band members. It's been a blast! Looking forward to our last upcoming shows - hope to see all of you there! //Tobias."
