Obscura - New Song Streaming Online

A brand new song from progressive death metal masters Obscura is available now! The 7-minute track is the second revealed so far and will appear on the German band's new album, Akróasis, which will be released February 5th, 2016 via Relapse Records. Mark your calendars! While you wait, explore the new material with "Sermon Of The Seven Suns" at this location.

Frontman Steffen Kummerer says: "If you dig the Akróasis title track, 'Sermon Of The Seven Suns' will surely melt your face. 'Sermon Of The Seven Suns,' the opening track of our fourth album Akróasis, perfectly blends all sides of Obscura, past and present."

He also added: "Signature riffing, shredtastic seven strings and trade off solos combined with the unique use of multi-tuplet odd time rhythms, multilayered patterns on all instruments and the high end production we have been looking for years. Using analog equipment and our live setups only, Akróasis turned into the most organic record up to date. The drums sound crystal clear, each bass and guitar notes are audible with the vocals framing each arrangement within a bright mix and wide range of dynamics."

I don't know... I'm just not digging the new Obscura sound. Fountainhead is definitely good and all, but Muenzner's lead playing gave the band a much more melodic yet simultaneously dissonant sound... it fit the band much better. Not to forget that Grossman actually gave this band some groove, this guy just seems like he's doing his job. I will say that the solo in this song was much better to me than the first... although that fretless guitar throws me off every time. He made it work better in this song, it felt quite out of place in the last track. I will listen to this album but I'm preparing to be disappointed.

However, this is coming from someone who strongly disliked Omnivium first listen, but came back to it years later to find out it was one of his favorite tech death albums ever
