Chicago Open Air - Fan Dies After Fall At The Festival
A 29-year-old North Side man died tragically this Friday night after falling two stories from a railing to the pavement below on opening night of the three-day Chicago Open Air Festival at Toyota Park in Bridgeview. The Chicago Sun-Times reports that just after 10 p.m., Robert Smucz was sitting on a railing watching the concert on the mezzanine level of Toyota Park at 7000 Harlem Avenue when he fell two stories to the cement pavement below, according to city spokesman Ray Hanania.
He was pronounced dead at Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn less than an hour later, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office, which found he died of multiple injuries from an accidental fall, and his death was ruled an accident, the medical examiner's office said. He lived in the 4500 block of North Campbell Avenue.
This year's three-day event featured artists including Rammstein, Disturbed, Korn, Gojira, Alter Bridge, Slipknot and Marilyn Manson.
