Ozzfest Meets Knotfest - 47 People Arrested

According to the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department, thirty people were arrested during the first day of Ozzfest Meets Knotfest at San Manuel Amphitheater in Devore, California. Ten other attendees were transported to the hospital for various medical reasons. Most of the arrests on Saturday, September 24th, were alcohol-related.

Furthermore, seventeen people were arrested during the second day of Ozzfest Meets Knotfest. The violations included a single-vehicle traffic accident (rollover) where the driver was found to be driving under the influence. Occupants of the vehicle were injured in the collision. Six attendees were transported to the hospital for variety of non-life-threatening medical reasons ? two altered state, two knee injuries, one neck injury, one under the influence.

About 37,000 people attended the event on Saturday, with 3,400 campers on the festival grounds. Saturday's Ozzfest lineup was headlined by Black Sabbath, while Slipknot closed out Sunday's Knotfest bill. Also on the Ozzfest portion of the weekend were Disturbed, Opeth, Black Label Society and others, while the Knotfest lineup included Slayer, Trivium, Anthrax, Suicide Silence and many more.

Both days featured three stages, with one of them named after late Motörhead frontman Lemmy Kilmister.

Saturday's show was the last ever for Black Sabbath in California. The band is in the final months of their farewell tour and will play three more U.S. shows in Texas this November before visiting South America. The legendary act will end its run with a series of U.K. gigs in early 2017.

I was there. There were tons of of really, really fucking trashy people. Everyone was either drunk, high, or both. The entire festival stunk of weed and alcohol, beer cans covering the floor everywhere. I spent most of Day 1 standing right next to a wasted shirtless guy passed out with his pants down, with a family member twerking on him, all while a 12 year old son watched. Quite a few very loud people trying to bring pointless politics into metal, trying to start "HILLARY FOR PRISON" chants all night and getting rightfully told to shut the fuck up. My Hispanic friend who is a 30-year marine veteran had a few people give him nasty looks just because of race. There were at least four marijuana-related booths there, three for merch and one that was straight-up for bongs and shit. The number of arrests does not surprise me, I'm surprised it's so little if anything.

They're the reason why we had to throw water bottle caps away, because if it weren't banned then they would cause explosions of water on the stage. Seriously, fuck the American metal community. This shit was pretty commonplace in every concert I've been in so far. Ozzfest/Knotfest itself was pretty great, 103F/39C windy dusty weather with $5 water bottles aside. /end rant

Above poster summed it up well. Although I did not attend this, I can agree that the American metal festival scene has gone to complete shit. The festivals that I attended this summer were full of those types of people. I try to put that behind me and have a good time regardless of what's going on around me, but sometimes you just can't ignore it. I think I'll stick to smaller shows from now on.

Too bad as it won't help a festival reputation and I know that many festivals have disappeared here in France because "metal" is so unpopular ! Yet I have never witnessed bad behaviours at gigs or festivals or to speak the truth they were so scare that they were not wroth mentioning.

Wow, that's bad. In all of the gigs I went people were well-behaved. Very occasionally there would be one or other guy who drank too much and passed out but that's it.

The sad part is that size doesn't make much of a difference. Some of the worst people I have met in the metal community were in a very small Behemoth set I went to. Even Myrkur, who is used to mass internet sexist comments, was uncomfortably signing stuff. The only nice concert I've been to was a medium-size (not a stadium but a decent size theater) Killswitch Engage/Memphis May Fire/36 Crazyfists, filled with the oh-so-hated "metalcore kiddies". Those people are super polite, respectful, generous, and chill.

I told my metal friends about Ozzfest/Knotfest and they said "yeah, that sounds like the American metal community". They suggested paying slightly more to get nicer seats, it weeds out a lot of the trashy people and even if not, you have less people you stand near. At least it's better to sit in a seat than stand for 8 hours straight next to said drunken-joke-incest-in-front-of-12-year-old-son horror display.

Yes, because they are way more popular than Megadeth and Opeth in the US (an tbh even in Europe)

Depending on your music taste you might want to try Maryland Deathfest or ProgPower USA. I never had ANY issues there. But yes, all those LiveNation Amphitheater events bring out the douche bags and wannabe's of the scene.

I actually have been to MDF a few years ago and it was a blast. Would love to go to ProgPower as well someday too.
