I was at Knotfest and heard parts of it live (but was leaving early to get to front row Carnifex's set). It sounded way better live, and was a song that actually interested me from the band. Really raw and heavy but with a melodic edge to it.

This studio recording is way worse. Holy what the fuck happened to the production. I get what they were going for with the song and appreciate it, but it needs some work. It's a serious callback to early 2000's nu-metal but the production is so muddy it just sounds like gibberish screaming into some indistinct guitar work. Slipknot's first two albums had something you could latch on to, the debut having the fantastic percussion and Iowa having a massive groove. This has nothing like that. I actually quite like the cleans but they are mixed so weak you can barely hear them. It's raw, but in the wrong way. The song is different enough that I enjoy it but I really hope it gets remade for the album. At the very least they're putting the past behind them and are trying to do something different from their previous stuff.

I'm gonna throw this out there and say this is actually the first Suicide Silence song I have liked in a while. They're going for something different, and despite my initial thoughts that adding cleans would even further pussify this band, it ended up having more of an old Deftones vibe.

Production is horrible but wow i didn't expect the band to take this kind of direction and well, i like it actually.

The comment section is comedy gold though.
