MaYaN - Launch Lyric Video And New Single
New MaYaN music has arrived! If you're curious about the Dutch symphonic death metal collective's new ambitious orchestral album, Dhyana, it's time to hear "The Rhythm of Freedom". For this third studio opus, the international 10 piece raised over ?40.000 through a crowdfunding campaign and enlisted the skills of The City Of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra, known for their work in cinematic features such as the Star Wars saga, Hannibal and many more. The new full-length release reflects on conceptual themes such as self-awareness and relinquishing our ego and self-conceited tendencies to find out who we truly are.
Mastermind Mark Jansen states: "'The Rhythm of Freedom' references the sensation of pure freedom you feel when riding your bike or bicycle. This also refers to the album title Dhyana, which stands for the moment where the mind gets absorbed by the heart and you feel total happiness without worries about the past and future. But the mind, like a predator, is always waiting for the moment to take over control again. We picked this song as our first single as it's the first impression people will get from the new MaYaN album. In it you hear the dynamic sounds in our music, layered with the City of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra who we recorded this album with. Expect a song that is heavy, yet melodic. Enjoy!"

Great start but boy. Didn't think Mark could get cheesier than his preachy, self-help Epica lyrics. Not sure why this band thought equating Buddhist philosophy to everyday motorcycle experiences was a good idea, especially on an orchestral metal album.

Yeah, I don't ever really judge the lyrics. Does it sound tight and well put together? Do the rhythms flow and are the transitions smooth? This song exceeds all expectations in regards to the band's previous work. Kudos to Jansen for always being able to raise his own bar.

Written by CWA on 29.07.2018 at 15:00 I just want good lyrics, whatever their theme is. Mark has a degree in philosophy. His lyrics incorporating Buddhist philosophy can be excellent but instead he settles for pop song style "riding on a motorcycle is so amazing" ridiculousness and instead of just settling for that, he has to pretend that has anything to do with Buddhism to give himself some intellectual credibility. It's been the same with Epica. He's just not a good writer of lyrics and it's ruining his music. I'm not saying metal can only be one thing lyrically or that there's no place for optimism and self-motivation in the genre. But this is a very cheap way of going about it imo.
