Rotting Christ - Premiere Another New Track

The Greek black metal veterans of Rotting Christ are now premiering the second track of their upcoming 13th record, The Heretics, which comes out on February 15th through Season of Mist. The song "Heaven And Hell And Fire" is now streaming in the form of a lyric video and you can listen to it as much as you want below.

Front man Sakis Tolis comments on behalf of the band: "Dear friends, we are in the pleasant position to present you another creation from our upcoming album The Heretics. The song 'Heaven and Hell and Fire' is influenced by John Milton's saying: 'The mind is universe and can make a heaven of hell, a hell of heaven' and it is another part of the heretic creation we've made with our last album. Enjoy!"

The Heretics is available for pre-ordering and here you can hear the album's first single.

I hate to say this but I have the feeling that this album is gonna be a competition for longtime fans such as: "tell us which of our old songs this new song has ripped off and win a signed copy of The Heretics". I like the track but I've already heard all of its parts before in different songs by the same band.

I've come to expect that from Rotting Christ over the course of the last three albums. I'm good with that; progress doesn't necessarily equate quality.

The "Fire God and Fear" track they released previously actually brought to mind their earlier albums with its gothic melodies. I have to agree this one sounds like "post-Theogonia" material what with the chug-chug riffing but there still surfaces some of the older melodic greatness here and there... They still rip off themselves at parts, as they have done since Aealo, but there's something "new-old" in their approach here... I don't know how to explain it, fuck.

edit: Ok, it's like they've finally blended in their "Triarchy of the Lost Lovers/Sleep of the Angels" stuff into their modern sound, if that makes sense. I think this could be pretty great actually, but I have a feeling "Heretics" will be a bit hit-or-miss when it comes to gelling these parts together. Still, it heralds a new(-old) direction and I'm pretty excited about that!

Whenever I write something funny, weird, or pretentious... I learned English by playing Baldur's Gate, okay?

Yeah, I don't know... It's more melodic but like nikarg said, it's still very repetitive. But I guess you can't expect Rotting Christ to innovate now?

I'll still listen to it though
