Savatage - Potentially Working On New Music

Savatage fans have been wondering what the band had in store ever since they reunited for a "special performance" at Wacken Open Air back in 2015. While they have never followed up that one-off performance, guitarist Al Pitrelli apparently confirmed in a recent interview with True Metal that he and vocalist Jon Oliva have been working on what could be new material from Savatage, with a possible tour to follow. Savatage's latest studio album, Poets And Madmen, was released back in 2001.

Translated by Brave Words, Pitrelli said: "Jon Oliva is a fantastic musician and is always working on new music, constantly sending me new songs and new ideas. When we work for TSO we sit down together at the piano and listen to his ideas for new Savatage songs. We always talk about doing something, I would like more than ever to get the band back together and back on tour. I know the fanbase in Europe would be delighted, and it would be nice to be able to do that. Yes, we talk about it a lot and I think one day we will because, as I told you, the world changes in a moment and I don't want to one day have the regret of saying, 'We should have done it when we could!' Let's try to live to the fullest and not wait to do something, let's do it! I can't wait for that day... I don't have a date, an hour, or an exact plan, I just know that we all want it very much."

'Potentially', 'could be', 'possible', 'I don't have a date, an hour, or an exact plan': too many uncertainties in this declaration...

It just seems Pitrelli wishes for a Savatage album, not that there will be one. Too many uncertainties there, like the previous post says.

Yes, it would be great if Savatage reunited for new music, I believe it when I see it.

I doubt it happens, just look at the documentaries or/and interviews, the band was meant to be over when Transu Siberian Orchestra got more succesfull... I guess it can happen but I'd say that there's a bigger chance that David DeFeis releases a new 5 cd VS album than Savatage a new one

I have no hope that a new album will ever see the light of day. I can't imagine Jon Oliva's health is all that great, he hasn't released anything or been a guest on anything since he had a mild stroke back in 2016. That said, I would absolutely love another Savatage record! I have no doubt that Jon could write another killer Savatage record. 'Raise the Curtain' and 'Festival' were great. The former could have been a Savatage album had they decided to slap the bands logo on it and no one would have been the wiser.

I'll believe when I see it!
At this point, I just hope we'll see more live footage. Wacken 2015 is still sadly collecting dust somewhere and I think Jon said in some more recent interview that there is some old footage that could be released in the future as well.
