Maybe Tuomas should focus more on writing decent music instead of making further cash from the efforts of a singer he fired unprofessionally. If they'd at least re-record it with Floor to give her something proper to sing for once (pun intended). Like that, it's obvious cash-grab.

But he's talking about the "days surrounding the release of the record" and the "tour to come". Once came out in June, 2004 and Tarja was given the boot after the End of an Era show in October, 2005. That's well over a year for things to turn sour.

Anyway, I find myself wanting this. I already have two versions of this album, so surely I need a third. There's a 4CD Earbook edition that looks especially tasty.

Let's not pretend that Tarja's efforts were all that great. Not only was she the 2nd best vocalist of the band after Marko joined, but she never wrote anything, not even a single line of lyrics. The band, including the main creative force, have every right to make money off of material they released with Tarja (as lame as it is to re-release this album again), especially since Tarja has had no problems performing Nightwish material as a solo artist.

I see no need to re-master the album whenever the sound quality is already top notch. Clearly a money grab for the band while Tuomas's time is taken up by the release of the upcoming Auri album.

Even though I don't think the original can be improved in any way, that would be more interesting.

Even though I'd probably prefer the original, I'd rather them re-record it or something. I would love to hear Floor's interpretation of some of these songs, especially since she barely got to sing on the last record they dropped lol.

Also, she can growl/scream. Let her do Marco's parts too.

The original is already pretty damn good. For as good as Floor is, I doubt she can improve this album.

I don't care about anything beyond the fact that Floor absolutely crushes her take on "Ghost Love Score" and that live video alone makes this re-release worthwhile.

Tell me what it is that makes re-releasing an older album in a more modern, enhanced and more bang-for-your-buck format greedy. With the exception of the die-hards, it's for newer fans who have yet to get their hands the masterpiece, and for the fans, potentially decades from now, who will eventually discover the band.

It's not a re-recording a la Manowar, just a remaster.

Once sold more than 2 million copies worldwide, making it their best-selling record. It's safe to assume that the vast majority of people interested in Nightwish and willing to spend money on music already owns the album. Also, Once has never been out of print, so anyone who wants it can still get it. That probably includes people who bought no other Nightwish album but Once (that's what makes it their best-selling record). And then there's the problem that many people just pirate the music and they will probably not make an exception for the re-release of an old record. So yes, they definitely expect people who own the old version to buy the new release.

I don't think Nightwish was hit that hard: there were 150.000 people that bought tickets for the first of the 2 virtual concerts they did... at 35? a piece (and I suspect about the same number for the 2nd one). That's some serious cash.

Urgh, a remastered snoozefest is still a snoozefest.

I love old Nightwish stuff and Imaginaerum and have 0 expectation when it comes to any new materials

The last album did not sell the way he assumed in his head was gonna sell so they brought the big guns out. Did not even wait for a 20 year anniversary or something to have as a descent excuse.

It's a remaster, not a re-record, therefore Floor will not be a part of it.

Every album they made after Once, was below standard in my opinion. The amazing vocals, that made this band unique on the metal scene all of a sudden became history. Then they kinda abandoned their original music style, pretty much... and became more regular-ish sounding rock, Putting lots of emphasis on Heitala and Olzon's vocals, honestly Heitala is saving Nightwishes ass at every turn in my opinion. But the music, while I honestly like Dark Passion Play, I could not compare it on a level of greatness with any of their previous work. Their previous work is just on another level of artistry, even Angels Fall First, from which I absolutely like the acoustic simplicity of it. And no I'm not a Tarja diehard fan, but genuinely I liked and loved, their mix of metal and operatic vocals, but all this is also gone now. Although I liked Annette more than Floor she was fired as well in a similar way that Tarja was. These things don't go unnoticed in my eyes and overtime I started seeing Tuomas as a disney-loving spoiled brat, a prefectionist with his musical taste gone terribly awry. We do not want boring atmospheric movie music when we listen to Nightwish. We want to handbang like from the Wishmaster, Oceanborn, Bless the Child, Once... times etc. I know I'm not the only one thinking it like this. And by the way Floor makes whole albums sound boring. The fact that Tuomas sees her as the most perfect element that was missing to his music makes me kinda sad and quite honestly, shows me how much his music taste gone bad, moldy. They should both just go and make music about fairytales for kids. Nightwish is dead. Long Live to Marco Hietala the ass-saver. Also in Delain. He is the ass-saver, man. Your song sucks? Call Hietala he will save your song and just perhaps your whole album.

Every album they made after Once, was below standard in my opinion.

Word. The operatic vocals were kind of gone already after Wishmaster though,
which is my main reason for finding the vocalist debate pretty ridiculous. There's no doubt Marko made them the phenomenon they became, and I have serious concerns about the future of the band without Marko (not to mention the general drop in quality since Once, yeah).

This was originally set to happen for the 10th-anniversary edition of the album, but Tarja didn't agree with the changes in some of her vocal lines proposed for some different versions of the songs at that time. It became a serious legal issue so Tuomas and the band would refer to her about her disagreement on social media posts as only "T". It turned out to be all about her share in the royalties. Be sure that this is only happening now because she got offered something to accept this re-release. The ones complaining about grabbing fans' money: no one's been forced to buy anything.

For me, personally, I find it extremely unnecessary. Once was THEIR VERY ALBUM and all that could come off good from it has already come great. I loved Tarja and though I find her a little bit lost on solo, she's a talented artist, not just a singer anymore, and that's much better for everyone, since they had turned themselves into enemies working for split audiences since Marcelo took over her career business in her last years with the band. She now has all the attention she deserves and Nightwish has reached greater levels of composition and much bigger audiences since her traumatic departure, with Floor being their best singer so far. I just don't agree to re-record ANY album sung by another vocalist with Floor. It's a matter of respect for the effort they put into the discs, in my opinion. What I think Floor really needs is space in the composition process, because she can practically sing anything, from growl to operatic, but after being the lead force of bands like After Forever and Revamp, I'm pretty sure she has a lot more to offer. Unfortunately, as she herself said, there's no way that's going to happen, since Tuomas got it all. And that's it. Nightwish was born Tuomas' baby, some cradled it, but in the end it is HIS CREATION, whether you like it or not.
