Iron Maiden - 17th Studio Album Announced

Iron Maiden are thrilled to announce the release of their 17th studio album, entitled Senjutsu, on September 3rd through Parlophone Records (BMG in the USA). It was recorded in Paris with longstanding producer Kevin Shirley and co-produced by Steve Harris.

For Senjutsu - loosely translated as 'tactics & strategy', the band once again enlisted the services of Mark Wilkinson to create the spectacular Samurai-themed cover artwork, based on an idea by Steve Harris. And with a running time of a little under 82 minutes, Senjutsu, like their previous record The Book Of Souls, will be a double CD album/triple vinyl album.

Steve Haris says: "We chose to record at Guillaume Tell Studio in France again as the place has such a relaxed vibe. The setup there is perfect for our needs; the building used to be a cinema and has a really high ceiling so there's a great acoustic sound. We recorded this album in the same way we did The Book Of Souls in that we'd write a song, rehearse it and then put it down together straight away while it was all fresh in our minds. There's some very complex songs on this album which took a lot of hard work to get them exactly as we wanted them to sound, so the process was at times very challenging, but Kevin is great at capturing the essence of the band and I think it was worth the effort! I'm very proud of the result and can't wait for fans to hear it."

Bruce Dickinson continues: "We're all really excited about this album. We recorded it back in early 2019 during a break in the Legacy tour so we could maximize our touring yet still have a long set up period before release to prepare great album art and something special as a video. Of course the pandemic delayed things more - so much for the best laid plans - or should that be 'strategies'!? The songs are very varied, and some of them are quite long. There's also one or two songs which sound pretty different to our usual style, and I think Maiden fans will be surprised - in a good way, I hope!"

I remember back in the day when bands and artists announced their upcoming albums more than half a year in advance. The waiting and anticipation for an album you were looking forward to was painful. These days even big names like Maiden can drop a bomb and boom, new album in just a little more than a month away. I like that. Really enjoying the new single, love the artwork. Eddie looks menacing. So this I'm really looking forward to since they managed to steer back in the right direction with The Book Of Souls because honestly, The Final Frontier was pretty weak imo.

Why English band must go to Paris to record it. Specifically since Bruce supported brexit. There are good studios in England. Overkill will put 20th album out, can Maiden reach such Milestone?

It would be good if he should move back to England for his stupid brexit opinion....

Honestly I think it's much better to leave only a small gap between announcement and release. With being conscious of so many records and bands, I bound to forget about some of them and miss them on release.

I like the album cover, but I don't like it as well. Shogun Eddie is cool as hell, but the black background makes it look a bit boring. They should have added a detail background of a shogun battle or something.

At first I was kind of letdown by the cover but looking at it now it's actually kind of cool, this Eddie is their best in a long time, also the "minimalism" of the background works alot better than on Book of Souls. Even if I didn't like the first single and also think the last 2 records was a huge letdown i'm extremely hyped about hearing a new Maiden record again.

Oh look, this was my 666 post....

Fantastic cover art, fantastic song and video for Writings on the Wall, I listened to it once a few hours ago and it's still stuck in my head; and when I see Adrian Smith on the songwriting credits, I get excited as hell, this is gonna be goood

Intro opens with a "that's not a knife" sample before Dickinson belts out a sustained warbling "ohhhhhh yeah!" and the dual-guitar harmonies sweep their way alongside groovy tribal-influenced drumming and Sounds of the Rainforest-inspired animal mating calls in the background, gaining momentum as they bleed into a ripping solo that fades out to the ambient noise of a gently blowing breeze.

Okay, please feel free to enlighten me.

I don't know, I just really don't like Paris. There are too many people, everyone is rude, there's an ambient smell of cigarette, the architecture is monotonous, everything is expensive, I generally just don't like anything there apart from like the museums.
I genuinely don't understand what people like in Paris, it stands as one of my least favorite places in France as a whole

Brittany and Alsace are my favorite parts of France, as well as the alps in general where I go ski pretty often. Other than that, I really loved Scotland. I feel like I'm not particularly fan of big cities though, probably due to the fact that I grew in a relatively medium sized one (60k inhabitants)

I'm fan of them, I saw them live 4 times, but I must say it: Their music is not diverse and flexible enough to be interesting enough for 81 minutes! The Book Of Souls was good example.

I would say this is true. And it indeed is the main problem on TBOS. Let's hope they have learned their lesson for the upcoming album. But I do have a hard time imagining how a through-and-through amazing Maiden album of 81 minutes would sound like.

Just look at the past. Their most epic album is probably Seventh Son Of The Seventh Son. And 44 minutes were enough for this album. You can go more straightforward and still be epic. But Iron Maiden aren't that type of progressive band with hundreds of riffs in every song, dozen of interludes here and there etc.
