Testament - Enter Recording Studio

Bay Area thrash metal legends Testament have officially confirmed they are tracking their new album over at Sterling Sound Studios in Nashville, with mastering engineer Justin Shturtz behind the board. Due sometime in 2024, it will be the band's first studio album since 2020's Titans Of Creation and the first with Chris Dovas (formerly of Seven Spires) on drums.

Why the change in the drum's?! Dave Lombardo is the actual drummer or not?

He left, I'm curious if he was involved in the song-writing though.

As far as I know, Testament did talk about recording a new album with him, but obviously left already before they even recorded it.

What I was wondering was if Lombardo helped in the song-writing process.

Nah, I don't think so. Maybe a song or two, but the whole album, no. He left in then middle of their tour right after announcing an upcoming planned date for a new album they were going to work on after the tour. Lombardo is always busy with other mediocre bands. And tbh, overrated. Much rather Bostaph or Hoglan back, for the groove technical style they got. Lombardo is great for the fast aggressive stuff. Just my opinion. I saw Dave with Testament once, and they played nearly half the "The Gathering" album, some oldies, and new ones, but he couldn't hold a candle to Hoglan's drum parts.

It would be nice to have Bostaph or Hoglan back. However, when it comes to Hoglan, and it may never be finished soon, but I'm dying for some new Dark Angel more than anything else he's done since he left Testament again.

Oh for sure. He left Testament so he can focus on reforming Dark Angel. But it's been years now. Still waiting 😆

Still waiting too. In fact, I've been waiting (between patiently and impatiently) for almost a decade since Gene said D.A. was working on new music. I mean ever since he left Testament again, he's obviously been playing shows more frequently with D.A., which I've been hoping means a new album will finally come to fruition. But with Jim Durkin's passing from last March, I guess we'll have to wait and see or we'll never know if it'll ever be finished.

Same. Waiting for Atrophy and Demolition Hammer to drop as well, since they announced it 3yrs ago...

Atrophy said on their Facebook page last October that a new album is coming in March, which I hope still happens. For Demolition Hammer, they did say a few years ago that new music was in the works, but I've never heard anything since then.
