Danish heavy metal veterans Mercyful Fate just announced via Facebook that they have "mutually decided to split ways" with bassist Joey Vera. While a replacement for Vera has yet to be announced, the band have reportedly been working on new material for their first studio album since 1999's 9 for a later release in 2024.

Frontman King Diamond comments on the split: "Our friendship and respect for each other will always remain the same, and we all sincerely wish each other the absolute best for the future."
