Mercyful Fate - To Release Next Album In 2025

Although Mercyful Fate got back together nearly five years ago, the iconic Danish heavy metal band hasn't issued a studio album since 1999's 9. New bassist Becky Baldwin, who joined last month, confirmed in a new interview with the 'That Metal Interview' podcast the release date of the band's new album has been pushed back to 2025 so that frontman King Diamond can concentrate on his namesake band's upcoming record The Institute.

When asked about a release date for the new Mercyful Fate record, Baldwin said: "I'm guessing, my guess is gonna be toward 2025, maybe towards the end of 2025. But it depends how it all goes, 'cause King is working on a King Diamond album first. So we've got a little bit of time there. And they'll have to tour that as well, give it the full world-tour treatment and everything. But there is something in the works. I've listened to Hank's demos. He sent me, I think about nine songs, a couple of weeks ago and I've been listening through those. So it's on the way. It's all just been in the works for kind of a while and now things are just starting to fall into place."

I'll keep my fingers crossed that it's good. I do like it when the classic bands manage to surprise everyone with a killer new release. I can't say I loved any Fate after In The Shadows but I'll keep an open mind and hope for the best.

And man, King has been talking about The Institute for a long time now. Hopefully that sees the light of day soon. The first single predates the pandemic by a full year.

I'd love it to be great - but I can't claim that the new song they did at Bloodstock in 2022 was particularly impressive

I'm sick and tired of waiting now. I've given up on both bands.

As much as I love Fate and the King… can’t say I’m really bouncing off the walls at this. Neither band has released a full LP in over 15 years, and the last ones that they did were more in the “good but not great” ballpark. I’m hoping we all get surprised!

I am the Magician and the Exorcist. I am the axle of the wheel, and the cube in the circle. “Come unto me” is a foolish word: for it is I that go.

Looking forward to seeing what they are preparing with this new album, the last Rock Fest gig in Barcelona was one of the best concerts in my life.

Sometimes the hype begins with the waiting, we have plenty of bands to hear in the meanwhile, let them release the album when they can, if not, we have they're older material, new songs won't change their legacy but unfair expectations may ruin the new one
