Mayhem: chaos... Wait a few years for the beginning of the end.

To begin, let's place ourselves in '87. Several iconic albums were released around that time. I'll give some "basic" examples, such as Bathory's Under The Sign Of The Black Mark and Sarcófago's I.N.R.I. These are "basic" examples, so to speak. There are a few more examples, like Terrible Certainty, December Moon, Into The Pandemonium, and one very special to me: Nightfall.

Heck, we can keep going! Among The Living, Scream Bloody Gore, R.I.P., Schizophrenia, Season Of The Dead, and finally Scum... There are more, but this is already plenty. There were already extreme works by this time; Mayhem weren't an exception on that front. Deathcrush has its charm, but even if we're talking about production, there's a similar release: the Peel Sessions by Extreme Noise Terror. Is Mayhem an exception?

Perhaps they were; iconic songs, every single one of them, no one can deny it, whether you like it or not. They influenced Norway, paving the way for the chaos and second wave of Norwegian black metal.

Already known members, some who left and others who continued, they are simply sublime for what they did at this time. I know Dead didn't participate in this one, but Maniac has a peculiar touch, he gave it his own twist. Whether you like it or not, it was another significant work for extreme metal. I can't add anything that hasn't already been said; I'd even say I need more information to write a review, but I'm just a guy who loves metal and writes reviews in his free time, or when he's feeling really inspired.

This EP is so good! I have it on cassette and wow, it was totally worth it, even though I didn't eat for two days after buying it. It was really expensive for a cassette, especially since it's a 2022 edition, but the rawness definitely feels better coming from a cassette! I wrote this review while listening to this EP on my Walkman; thanks for reading. Good morning, afternoon, or evening. See you next time. Goodbye and thanks.

Before the Black Circle, before Deads suicide, before the murder of Euronymous, before the church burnings, before black metal as we now know it, there was Deathcrush! In 1987, the now legendary Mayhem birthed what would become one of the most influential black metal albums ever. This album is almost entirely responsible for what we know black metal as today. Perhaps Venom coined the phrase "Black Metal" but this album (along with a few others) is what was really responsible for the genre from a technical standpoint. The simplicity, the atmosphere, the production, the aggression, this is what black metal is all about!
