I honestly think this is my favorite Sepultura album...

This album is probably their most underrated. At first i didn't actually like the album, but noticed how prolific each member of the band was with their respective instruments. The cynic would obviously cast this off as a rip-off of slayer/metallica/megadeth etc., but this album deserves to be listened to more than once.

This is such an obnoxious Slayer rip-off. I can't even listen to it anymore it bothers me that much.

Couldn't be less bothered by that (I always hear more Celtic Frost though but that is mainly in the first album though)... Really liked this album when I heard it many years ago and still do.

Beneath The Remains is even more SLayer like as is Arise, so you should steer clear of those then as wel
But glad to finally see someone agree with me on Sepultura being way Slayer-like.

Haven't heard Beneath The Remains, and I have listened to Arise in a while, but I remember the title track being super catchy, and not too Slayer-esque. I'll have to listen to them both.

Good album, but not really something special. In my opinion, they've found their own style only on Chaos A.D. album.

Yesterday I was listening to this again and I thought it sounds nothing more than a definite 7, some songs are really catchy and at the same time the other half sound so badly like fillers.

I have some warm memories from this album as it was one of the first rawer metal I listened to back when I was 13-14. That probably explains my rating.

Love the drums!!! Not a huge Sepultura fan, but they always managed quite a few good riffs and those drums pound. Beneath the Remains is quite an improvement over this, and has stand out riffs that in my opinion separated them from mindless Slayer worship.

Same here. Though the main memory I have from listening to this back then, was listening to it late at night, and being majorly creeped out by the outro to "R.I.P. (Rest In Pain)".
Overall, this is an inferior work compared with the two albums which followed this one, but still, I do consider some of it's tracks as thrash classics.

Nice old school album but knowing history abit generic, but still good work from not so traditional country in that time in metal map. Good speedy, aggressive, angry thrash

Ain't it funny how some metal fans love bands when they are nothing, sound poor produced and do generic things that actually don't bring nothing to the history of metal? It's Ok if you like this record, I like it too... but I wouldn't compare it with Arise, Chaos A.D. or Roots, those records are legendary; this first records are just the early anecdots of something way bigger getting started.

Obviously that's a matter of opinion. For me they peaked with Beneath the Remains but I can remember the immense disappointment I felt when I heard Chaos AD and I flat out hated Roots. I've only listened to bits of the stuff they've released since then apart from the live Max album.

I would take Chaos A.D. and Roots in a heartbeat over this flat Possessed/Slayer ripoff.

I never gave this early stuff too much of a chance because I was just so obsessed with Beneath the Remains and then Arise as a kid. But this album is super solid. Fun to drag it up after all this time.

Agree, plus I never saw a bigger Slayer rip off in it.
