Which is the best Burzum album?
IMO it is "Filosofem", it has a nearly perfect atmosphere.

I have to choose Filosofem
Despite the annoying and long instrumental... this album has the best vocals and production... the atmosphere is so damm good
I really love that album. and also the lyrics specially the ones from Dunkelheit

//Hvis Lyset Tar Oss- Defiantly a masterpiece! Home of the best black metal song Det Som En Gang Var. Varg's genius on this album is unexplainable//

And it also has an ambient track with 2 different ideas for about 20 minutes.
This track pretty much ruins the album for me, when listening to Filosofem I sometimes take out the cd before even getting to this track, since I know that I don't have the patience to sit through it.
I have to agree with Mr. Doctor though, that Filosofem has very good vocals and production, but the 20 minute ambient track kills it for me.
I like the self-titled debut most, though I'm not going to vote, since I have not heard Daudi Baldrs and Hlidskjalf from start to finish.

I also hate the instrumental.. But if you don't think about it... The album is just perfect.
Daudi Baldrs is a very good instrumental album IMO... But Hlidskjalf suck balls.

Too bad i cant change my vote, recently i started to understand how incredible Filosofem is. The atmosphere and darkness of that album is unreal.

Hard.
I went with Burzum s/t though.
First I heard, first out of all of them to have an insane effect on me. Filosofem is an awesome album which focuses primarily on the dark ambient path and even though it's amazing
Burzum s/t is mind blowing.

Filosofem may have some of Varg's best ideas... like Jesu dod and Dunkelheit.
But IMO, Hvis Lyset Tar Oss is his most consistent work to date. I just love every track on there. I voted HLTO.
And Daudi Baldrs is good as well.
Tbh, I think the only Burzum album I DON'T like is the latest.

Hliðskjálf is the best ambient album i've ever heard but i don't know why people dont like that. maybe because it's burzum album or maybe because black fans only listen to black. i don't know. i voted to that. but if i wanna choose another album, my choice surely will be Filosofem. Jesus Tod is best track of burzum

Their selftitled is the best, for Burzum's purpose Filosofem seem too heavy and repetitive, the riffs in Jesus' Tod are always the same from 3rd to the 8th minute, not to mention the 25minutes instrumental (or silence??) track.
The variety in riffs and atmosphere in ''Burzum'' makes it a better album to me, and the instrumental songs are also better in ''Burzum'' (Channeling the powers of souls... and Dungeons of darkness). And the classics of all time Black Spell of Destruction and War. ''A Lost Forgotten Sad Spirit'' has one of the best riffs variety in a metal song ever.
As for the ambient albuns, they are not as bad as many people claim. Some of the songs are really interesting, ''Bálferð Baldrs'' and specially ''The Death Of Wuotan''.

For me, it's Det Som Engang Var. if you ask me, that album has it all: atmospheric songs, songs to headbang to, songs that just won't get out of your mind once you listen to them.

"Hvis lyset tar oss". That album is just sexy as hell. The cover is awesome and reflects the dark, painful and desperate music. "Det som en gang var" is without a doubt one of the best black metal songs ever.

Jesus Dod is Burzum's best song, and it's too bad that the album is ruined by the shitty ambient tracks.
haven't listened to them all, so i'll hold my vote.

Filosofem without any doubt. Like Tanner said, Jesus Dod is burzum's best song... owns so hard, among the best BM I've heard.
Both "Decrepitude" tracks are great too, I only wish that 25 minute long ambient song was only 4-5 minutes (it's nice, but way too long)... would have been perfection for an album. Dunkelheit and Beholding... are classics that fit in perfectly with the mood of the album. Overall, it's the most consistent Burzum album.

anyway to stick to the topic .. Filosofem for me

Right now finding it impossible to choose, which is really out of character. Ask me any other time in the last maybe 13 years and I always would have told Hvis lyset tar oss without a doubt. Used to listen to that album an obscene amount and was actually my "night time" music for I don't know how long.
But maybe the last year or so I've been starting to lean a bit more towards Det som en gang var and Burzum/Aske, though probably more so Det som (though "War" is one of the tracks that really keeps Burzum/Aske in the running...that song makes me ridiculously happy lol). Hell if I know anymore which is my favourite.
