Three of the "Big Four" have all recently released "comeback albums". Which one of these albums do you enjoy more. I really like Christ Illusion, it just seems more of a return to form than the other two releases.

United Abominations for me. Death Magnetic was just a pile of crap to me. Christ Illusion was a step up from God Hates Us All but something about it was lacking for me. Though I really enjoyed UA. But that also might be because overall I prefer Megadeth over the other 2.

I like UA alot too man. I think DM is pretty much a pile of mediocrity.

haha dammit, I thought about making this thread last night after I left work, but without the Slayer option.

But hey, this makes it easy for me - Slayer wins this by far. United Abominations is too slow and pretty much one of my least favorite Megadeth albums, and Death Magnetic is produced, mixed, and mastered horribly, has shitty drumming, annoying vocals, songs that are too long, blah blah blah I've said it all already.

Christ Illusion just by a very small margin. UA and DM are on the same level for me, mediocre as hell both of them.

But how can one consider UA a comeback album when The System Has Failed was released two years earlier and that was acutally Megadeth's comeback album. Now if that COMEBACK album was included the choice would be even easier. Cause TSHF pisses all over those mentioned here.

i gotta agree The System is a exceptional album, though even now i haven't heard UA or all of Christ Illusion so i won't vote yet.

Youre right man, what the fuck was I thinking. Obviously I wasnt. That album does kick ass though.

I've voted for Christ Ilusion. I think it's a great Slayer album. United and Death are also good albums but IMO both bands have obviously done much better.

I've only heard bits of all the albums so I can't really vote yet, but from what i've heard United Abominations seems I prefare that, since i'm a big (well, obviously not that big since I havn't completly heard this album) of Megadeth anyway, it seems to make sence.

Slayer never did much for me anyway, and as for the songs of Death Magnetic i've heard, it just sounds like it's being metal for the sake of being metal, just because the fans want it, not because the band do and it's in their hearts. The World Needs a Hero by Megadeth was much the same in that sense.

Still, I won't vote till i've heard more of all the albums

Each of these albums have their weaknesses and cannot be compared to the stuff these bands made in 80's and early 90's. The one with least weaknesses (for me) would be Christ Illusion. I've only listened Death Magnetic one time through, it was okay, worth that specific time. United Abominations has never hit me, I've only listened it once with a thought, I find it boring. Christ Illusion doesn't really bring anything new from Slayer musically for me, but the whole concept is quite well made, which is why it gets my vote.

Oh, and there's of course a little fact named Dave Lombardo in there as well.

Three legacy-damaging reasons why some bands should just give up writing new music. There's no reason to crank out albums every few years if you have nothing new or important to say. These bands could all take a lesson from Celtic Frost - rather than putting out another 'OK' release every 4-5 years to keep up with your contract I'd much rather just wait - even 16 years - until you actually have some ideas and want to put out something special that you are passionate about. So for these three records, it's a wash.

Perhaps they thought they actually had something to say? We all just didn't like too much, so what.

I actually like Christ Illusion alot. But whats up with all these bands now adays releasing albums every 4-5 years. Back in the day, bands would have a new album out every 1-2 years, and they would be kick ass albums.

I haven't listened to Christ Illusion all the way through (I'm still getting to that)...but United Abominations is better than Death Magnetic for sure...the riffs are stronger, the solos are better composed, the drums serve the purpose better and sound a lot better than in Death Magnetic, the lyrics are more intellegent and hold an overall concept and aren't immature...I also like Dave's vocals better than James's...I'm one of those guys that picks Megadeth over Metallica anyway...and from what I heard on Christ Illusion, it packs a heavier, more ass-kicking punch but I would have to go back and listen to it again...

United Abominations got my vote. The Slayer album was surprinsingly good, I think it is their best work since Seasons in the Abyss, for me at least, And as for Death Magnetic, well, it's at least better than Reload and St Anger, an improvement of quality in the music, IMO, but unfortunately still nothing astonishing.

Christ Illusion, by far my favourite Slayer album.

UA was really good, with the exception of a few songs.

and DM just seemed straight up pansy

By the way - Testament's come back album this year deserved to be in this poll, at least it would have made things even more difficult to choose for some - and for me at least, it's better than all the other albums in the poll.

Testament isnt part of the big four. Besides, youre not supposed to create a poll with an obvious winner.

yes testament is not, but it doesnt mean that we have to forget them all the time!! for a lot of thrash fans (more than 50%) they r so better than Anthrax, at least they didnt feat with Raps.
Testament is so so higher than Anthrax or Exodus or such bands. and why they r not in big 4 is cause they werent started at the same time.
but their last album is borring for me.

I didnt forget them, this was just a poll for the big four. But if I did include them here, they woulda got my vote. And how do you find their last album boring? You like DM, that is the definition of boring.

I find both Testament's latest and Death Magnetic boring, so it is possible
