Both bands are political based, and two of my favorites. SOAD got my vote, obviously, but who do you like better?

I really like both but SOAD are just exceptional.

Gotta go with SOAD as well. To be honest, my opinion isn't based on politically based lyrics, but more with the musicianship. Sure SOAD has gone down the toilet with the "ize" albums, but their earlier works (mostly their debut) are just amazing in their nonchalant, casual insanity. Sure theirs the argument that Rage is a bit more technically proficient and have roots in more traditional music, but they just get bored of them after a song or two.

SOAD for me too, and globally for the same reasons as Paradox0 stated. This said I do enjoy some RATM songs, and have a lot of respect for Tom Morello.

Sure SOAD has gone down the toilet with the "ize" albums

Why? Because they sold well? Those albums contain some of their best material.

Never cared much for RATM, dont know why... their sound never attracted me in any way

As for SOAD, one of the first ''heavy'' bands I listened to. Toxicity was a welcome addiction during their pinnacle. More than 10 years with the same line-up, just to split up from nothing -_-

Overall SOAD is much better than RATM in every aspect IMO.

No because they're uncreative, boring, and in all honesty, try too hard to be crazy. To be fair, it's some of their most "technical" stuff but I just found both albums pretty bland.

RATM hands down... SOAD have always been shit for me. Just a couple of songs are goog. The rest is from slighty above average to really mediocre... The vocalists are just annoying.

And RATM's debut is amazing.

Rage.

I may be an old fart, but there is something wonderfully primal about screaming "Fuck you I won't do what you tell me!" repeatedly. Especially after a shitty day at work.

While that is true, what does Rage, a German Heavy Metal band have to do with this contest?

Agreed. SOAD I've always found fairly irritating. RATM always had some good funky groove in their music.

IS this a serious question?

Rage Against The Machine of course.
They were first, they were innovators they were great but somehow got radio airplay whereas System Of A Down targeted the radio airplay form the getgo even copying a lot of Rage Against The Machine riffs SOAD are followers not trendsetters.

Listen to a song once and the melody is already stuck in your head. It is for that reason they get played on the radio really a lot.

I don't think people really understand what Marcel really meant with Radio friendly. IMO SOAD is really accesible, nothing really challenging to the ears. aggressive stuff but lots of song that are too mellow, perfect for radio imho. Then again RATM is also radio friendly to me, but their music is just better.
And just SOAD's vocalist alone is enough reason for me to vote for RATM

Wondering the same question? Seriously how Rage Against The Machine get a challenge with System of a Down, and more confusing, System of a Down is in lead by 9.

Rage Against The Machine is the band which have released Rage Against The Machine, Evil Empire and The Battle Of Los Angeles... And what System of a Down have on the other hand to challenge them?!
Beside, Rage Against The Machine have Zack De La Rocha and Tom Morello on their line-up who are both outstanding at what they do..

Totally agree... Zack's screams make Serj look like a plain joke to me and I'll not gonna talk about Morello because his guitarr's weird sounds speak for themselves.

Well, it definitly isn't songs packed with distorted guitars and screams. The only SOAD song I really see as radio friendly is Lonely Day and possibly Aerials. What's odd is I seem to remember Rage getting vast amounts of play on MTV, much more than SOAD, so which is the most listener friendly? To me, both bands are just very talented and unique, thus the reason to their succes. And yes, they are accesible to a wider audience but are both far from being radio friendly.
