For me it is doubtlessly Quorthon, the mighty God of Bathory.

Being the driving man behind Bathory, whom every (extreme) metaller knows or should know.

That's all. We owe him.

I think it could be Valfar, the frontman of Norwegian black-viking metal band Windir. He's got one of the best black metal vocals i have ever heard and his musical ideas are so fucking great.

Well in my opinion, if its not about metal, i would support you with Kurt Cobain Freddy Mercury, and most importantly... JOHN LENNON! (and many more....)

Definetly Chuck, and Euronymous as well...but while they were here they both jump started 2 genres of metal and look where those genres are today. So they left their legacies quite well

Seen as the topic isn't metal related exactly, I gotta say John Lennon, definately.

Eh, no I still don't agree.

With assasinating Dimebag they killed Pantera & Damageplan. Not really anything more. Ok, maybe a little 'spirit' of metal, but then it just gets vague.

Hey, I love the music of the dude, and his solo's, hell yeah. Therefore the 'spirit' of metal. BUt furthmore I think we lost a lot more with the death of for example Quorthon. But hey, I want no arguement, he was good as hell too.

Then I've said it all.

As I read back my first post, I wonder if I should honour more people. But then again, I would probably forget one anyway, so what's the point.

They are probably the most legendary. I sitll need to hear more of their music, though, I juat have heard one death song and 2 bathory songs.

For me, It's hard to think but I know it's certainly not Dimebag. Somnium from Finntroll is the only person in my top ten bands to die, he was a migthy troll indeed. I'll mention Sabine from Elis too, hardly a big influence or well known but she was certainly a very good singer.
