Personally I prefer Tama's sound... plus most of the bands I listen to use Tama, but tell me what you like, which model and why

Every one of the "name" brands' higher-end kits sound awesome. Shell material will have a big impact on the overall sound, as will head choice. I've heard guys play kits made by all of the above manufacturers and have them sound wicked. I think it's more about how you hit the drums, rather than who makes them - a great drummer will make an average kit sound absolutely incredible!
If I absolutely had to pick, I'm a big fan of the Sonor Delite kits, although I'd have to get a custom finish because the Sonor finishes suck!
Obviously snare drum choice is something completely different...
(BTW Ludwig is another of the heavyweights not mentioned on the poll)

I have worked with large number of drummers over the years and all of them agreed that Tama have lost it's sound ,this is because Tama drums are made in Malesia,Philippines and Indonesia nowadays,be as it may Tama still remains one of the best
but out of that list I go for Drum Workshop , I got one small kit

Yeah, that's right. He uses either Sonor Signature or Designer series drums or those horrible Paiste drums bade from recycled Paiste cymbals. Nice idea but terrible sound IMO...

My cymbals are low end Paiste Cymbals. They need replacing when I get enough money

No I haven't , it is very old, approximately 35 years, former military brassband cymbal ,it is battleweary piece of metal
John Bonham used same sized ride at some point of his career, so I've been told

What kind of Paiste's? I only have 3 cymbals at the moment and they are from the 302 set (cheap).

I have a 502 20" ride, an 18" rude crash and some 101 hihats which need replacing. Not my ideal set but Paiste gets really expensive lol

The usual ride size is 22"-26" but 28" is huge ,weights a ton
Usual ride size is 18"-22". I've never seen anything larger than 24", and I've only seen a 24" ride once.

Yes but in 70s everything was bigger. Just heard that Ian Paice got 3 26" rides in early days of Deep Purple

Yeah I want some massive rides and crashes... I'm really not a fan of this new "fast crash" (16" - ish) craze thing.. huge cymbals are so awesome.
my Rude crash has an awesome sound though, really heavy
Anyone here able to recommend some hihats?

I agree that every one of these sets sound awesome, it's more up to the drummer to make it sound good.
I voted Pearl, I have been a fan of them ever since I started listening to Evergrey, so I guess it's nostalgic thing.
I really like Sonor as well, as long as it's played by Ed Warby.
I also like those 24" or bigger rides, bigger cymbals for bigger sound, right?
And what's the point of sounding small?

I have no idea what the point of sounding small is.. but whatever is going on is changing metal...
hopefully not for good...
