Which Maiden vocalist is your favorite (NOT Dickinson, I know everyone would have chosen him)? I voted for Di'Anno, he just seems to capture the "maiden" style more than Blaze. Plus Id listen to the Self-Titled over The X Factor anyday!

Damn damn damn! I hate this question! Such a tough choice, I love them both. My first thought is Bayley, because I really like his band today (and the Maiden albums featuring him). But I guess... hmm... well, I have to go with Di'Anno. Because Maiden's first two albums are favourites of mine ("Killers" being their all time best) and I liked Paul right from the start, while it took some time to get into Bayley's vocals.

Blaze! I like the Di'anno songs with Bruce singing them, but I would rather hear Blaze doing his two albums worth of songs.

Blaze. The only "problem" he has is, that he is not Bruce...

Paul Di'Anno for sure. Blaze Bayley is a very talented musicians, but his voice is too low to fit Maiden's style. Di'Anno brought a punk vibe in the songs and when Dickinson sings the songs from Iron Maiden and Killers I personnally think he ruins 'em. Dickinson is an awesome singer but he does'nt have that punkish vibe that made Maiden so special.

Paul was pretty amazing, and Blaze was good also just not as stellar as D'ianno was...

Di'Anno made some of the songs on the first two albums for me. Phantom of the Opera is still one of my favorite Maiden songs.

Di'Anno, the writing for the 1st two albums was way better than the writing on the X Factor and Virtual XI by far. Different incarnation, different energy there.

I voted for Bayley, because he gave a new side on the Iron Maiden vocals. He faced the worst Iron Maiden times, trying to offer his unique style with his voice. I also like Di'Anno, but I really appreciate Bayley's effort (Virtual XI is a really good album).

I vote for Blaze, because him was a more serious person. Paul gave to the band, many discipline problems.

Though I think Blaze is a better overall vocalist than Paul, Paul's voice and style were a much better fit for Maiden. That Blaze got saddled with some of the band's weaker material to work with doesn't help.

Is this even really a valid question? i don't think blaze should even be held anywhere near the same level as di'anno...the music with di'anno was infinitely better, he had a better voice, his time with the band marked the beginning of arguably the greatest metal band we've yet seen...while blaze's solo stuff seems pretty good (from the little i've heard) the stuff with maiden was shocking (has anyone seen the video for "virus"? wow...) and should not be compared to the stuff with di'anno as it is worlds apart. that's my 2 cents anyway

I suppose I wouldn't be the only one who would say that neither one come close too Dicko, but Blaze was pretty useless. Di Anno is someone who has actually improved significantly with age. His work with Maiden was not his best work I recommend to another who might be interested to look up his more recent works. He really has become a much stronger singer. While what I heard of Blaze, not just in maiden but his solo work too, that he just seems like an very week vocalist.

Di'anno, for sure, I just can't stand Blaze. Im not really sure why, I really enjoy his vocals on "clansman" (albeit that I like Bruce's better), but its just something about him that don't work. I guess hes just not Maiden enough for my liking. And How can anyone not prefer Bruce over all other maiden vocalists. For the love of shit he is a living legend. And FYI the only one who can even come close to standing up to him is Paul, Blaze is the weakest maiden ever had, and I dont think that many people would disagree with me.

Everything he doesn't like is metalcore. Britney Spears, Elton John, Michael Moore, and green beans are also metalcore, in case you guys didn't know.

I voted for Blaze. It's good to see some support for Blaze's work with Maiden - it shows that it's not such an obvious choice for people to go for Paul Di'Anno (although he was obviously great too, and The Phantom of the Opera is one of the ultimate Maiden songs, to be fair).

But the Maiden albums with Blaze on vocals are really underrated IMO, especially Virtual XI - as Terror stricken said, it's a really good album. It just tends to get overlooked in favour of Maiden's more well known releases. I also agree with Nighthowls concerning the 'darker' edge that Blaze's voice has.

Admittedly, sometimes Blaze's voice sounded a bit strained on a few songs he did with Maiden, where it didn't quite fit - but when Blaze was 'on fire' (excuse the crap pun!) with songs like Man on the Edge, Judgement of Heaven, and most of the songs on Virtual XI, I think he suited the mood of the music and gave it another depth of emotion, where he worked within his own style.

Di'Anno for sure. Neither him nor Bailey are great vocalists, imo, but Bailey is by far the worst singer Maiden ever had since their self-titled album (his pitch is all over the place). None of them comes close to Dickinson, the only great vocalist Maiden ever had.

However, I must say that Bailey is by far not the only one to blame for the atrocious albums Maiden released with him. All the band went utterly shitty at that time, no matter what the fanboys may say.

There's no way I can understand those who say Virtual XI was a good album. For me, it's probably the worst piece of shit a traditional heavy metal band ever released. Even 12 years after its release, I must make an effort to avoid throwing up when I have the misfortune to hear a song from this abomination of an album.

Also, it doesn't matter to me but Blaze looked retarded and out of place on stage with Maiden. He looked like a big ape lost in the middle of a crowd, not knowing what to do.

I voted for Di'Anno. For me the first two Maiden albums are in the top 5 Maiden albums. Maybe it's because I got into them before Bruce joined the band. Besides, Bailey is at his best with his post Maiden solo stuff. Man can that man sing.

FYI QUOTE UNQUOTE I dont care if people agree with you or not, I simply stated my open minded honest opinion, and didnt try convincing some else, or what is what, or who is who, you SHOULD do the same, just asuggesytion, I know though that you want or need it cause its a fact that BRUCE is the best despite what anyone else thinks right? Blaze imo isn't bad, it's just that people simply hate him because he isn't Bruce the same way some people think Ripper "killed" Iced Earth and Judas Priest. FFS all those 3 bands didn't even have the same sound on those albums so it's not like it was the "classic" maiden/priest/iced earth sound beneath their vocals(which obviously would have been a SACRILEGE TO THE NAME OF METAL : )

but i'm gonna vote Paul. nowadays he's gone really bad, his vocals are just way too raspy, but his early recordings with Maiden were really fucking good.
