The staff nominate what they think is the best, they usually add all the good ones, but if you feel they missed something, you can write in your own ballot.

Well actually, you can see that a lot of write-in votes from the past years get a nice share of votes, it's just that they never win, because we nominate good stuff like a boss

It's an award list anyway. So its obvious that 90% of the time the most popular band/album is going to win. I'm not saying that they don't deserve it, maybe they do. I'm betting that metallica's lulu will make it to the list, even if you guys don't nominate it
Its music at the end of it, its subjective and its also people wanting their favourite band, no matter how bad the release, to be the top.
But I like these best of/year end/award lists coz they always give you a chance to check out albums/bands that you would have overlooked.
As always I'm looking forward to the stoner/sludge, post metal and doom lists

you can always post your reccomendation in the various [Genre] reccomendation 2011-2012 scattered in this forum. Or the New albums Reccomendations. Some hiddens gems get noticed by staff there

Yes, and if you want more, you can always check out staff picks or what Staff/Elite members with a taste similar to yours write reviews about in my first year as a Metal Storm member, I've amassed over 100 gb of stuff to listen to because of the team. Needless to say, if you ask for suggestions in MS, you'll get more than you can chew at first, which is what I adore about this site

Yep I do that. I've gotten quite a few good reccos from MS over the years. I'm probably a lot more active now then in the last 6 years but I've definitely found a few members whose tastes I trust

I guess it was asked because last year there was the opportunity to submit whatever nominations you think the staff would miss. Personally I'm pretty sure Sonne Adam, Argus (in the heavy metal category, hopefully), Subrosa and 40 Watt Sun all make it to nominees, so I'm not worried.

Its not that too cheap mainstream nominee Chuck. What you are thinking is absolute crap of what gonna happen here. Great releases always gets a ample votes( in some cases its awful too see lying down where it aint supposed to be...SHOCKING!) to outstripped other good releases but sometimes satisfactory outputs gets in top which actually puts me off especially.

Exactly. I bought a couple of albums cause they won in the awards last year.

Also, I bet I'll be the only one that votes for one of my favorite albums for the year. I can guarentee it won't get nominated.

If Argus makes it it will go into the doom category where 40 Watt Sun might also pop up in, so it seems you'll have to make a choice if both get nominated

Found nothing mind blowing about the use of the saxophones, he wasn't the first to use them and I have heard them used better. but the saxophones were the highlight of the album though, without them I thought it was extremely mediocre, just like all of Ihsan's solo albums.

meh. i liked the album, tossed me two cents in for it. it wasn't overlooked, it was just a matter of other staff members - particularly those more into prog - liking other stuff more and those releases having a little more support.

there is always good stuff that doesn't make the cut. lots of people, lots of music, differing opinions... shit happens.

the most egregious mistake i can think of is us completely missing Cobalt's Gin. That one we flat out msised. (I didn't see/get a copy until January of the following year, after voting had closed.) that was piss poor.

Ihzzy was just a case of different strokes for different folks.
